They should have consulted with Colin Kaepernick first; now they’ve lost all credibility with American leftists. What were they thinking?! There’s even a video of a protester singing the Star-Spangled Banner. Why ever would they associate our flag and national anthem with freedom and liberty?

Yes, another symbol of oppression. At least they had the good sense not to compound their error.

No one was ever protesting the flag.

*facepalm

If people are still this tone deaf it’s no surprise they believe the load of crap constantly spewing from the White House like a broken sewer main. The biggest thing that the rise of the authoritarian right has shown me is just how many people either don’t care to look at the truth or just plain don’t want to.

No other flag, represents the notion of freedom and standing up to tyrants...well except maybe the original Betsy Ross flag, than the American flag!

It should seem obvious to anyone...its called hoping for support from the USA.

What do you think should we give it to them?

Can you define this authoritarianism you speak of?

that is certainly a tricky conversation...my heart says yes, my mind says it will be "expensive."

I disagree with ever bringing China into the WTO. Their human rights issues are beyond reprehensible.

The Hong Kong/China issue is/was a Great Britain issue though, at least originally. So the ceding of Hong Kong back to China on a time-line is really between those 2 parties.

But yeah, I personally stand with Hong Kong's people, not neccesarily their government.

You had better change the flag then

When it comes to freedom. The US is ranked 17th.

And that is where they want to remain.

You do realise that is what they are protesting for ?

I know why they are protesting. I just think that they aren't as free as the list puts them. There is more to this Hong Kong story than meets the eye. That is my opinion.

Then why did Kapernick say he was, and explicitly said so? The problem is the media you consume lied to you. But at this point you should know they are.

"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,"

It was in fact a protest of the flag. He went even further and demanded Nike not use the Betsy Ross flag because it too is evil. It was always about the flag.

According to their definition of freedom. None of the countries have the population the US has or it's problems, the closest is Germany, a few spots ahead of the US, with about 25% of the US population.

That is still the dumbest thing I've ever seen. He and his teammates are rich.

By and large, the only oppression of the black community I've seen comes from their own culture and half their leaders (who lead them to the voter plantations of the left). Yup bad cops exist. But for every bad cop, there are a dozen more trying to do the right thing. We've all seen those uplifting videos on Youtube.

And Ross was a Quaker! Another failure of the American education system.

Of course you do because you know what freedom is as well I do.
And seeing people fighting for what we have pulls the heart strings
of any good american. But it is a very complicated question and
well played by you.

Like you, I want to see them prevail, At least to some extent. I
just don't know how the U.S. can do anything. And GB is just
honoring a deal that was made. So for them to interfere? That
would just make them look real bad. I'm surprised by China's
tolerance so far.

I just hope some how negotiations can be heard before a massacre.
