The U.S. Is ‘Missing’ Millions in Ukraine

While two million dollars is chump change in comparison to size and history of Ukrainian corruption, such quick action by the (until now) very shy Ukrainian prosecutors has raised eyebrows in political circles around the world. This is in sharp contrast to 2014, when in one of the biggest heists of aid money anywhere—an estimated two billion dollars in IMF aid for Ukraine—speedily exited the country via PrivatBank, owned by the politically-connected oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky.

While the Obama administration publicly hopped the bandwagon of “change” in Ukraine, sending the FBI and U.S. Treasury to investigate the crimes of the previous corrupt regime, it left the current corrupt regime alone. As it turned out, nobody really missed the missing IMF billions and Mr. Kolomoisky wasn’t bothered. The issue died in a face-saving exit, played out in the local courts of Odessa Oblast where everyone involved seemed to get lost in complicated world of tax havens, offshore banking and legal jurisdictions compounded with a strong case of Ukrainian amnesia.

++ is owned by 1+1 Media Group, and one of the largest media conglomerates in Ukraine. Company owner is Ihor Kolomoysky, a Cypriot-Ukrainian billionaire business oligarch who controls his business empire from Switzerland.
Why from Switzerland?

Russia is asking for Kolomoysky to be put on Interpol's wanted list. On 2 July 2014 a Russian District Court authorized his arrest in absentia for "organizing the killing of civilians".

In 2015 Victor Pinchuk brought a $2 billion civil action against Kolomoyskyi and Gennadiy Bogolyubov in the High Court of Justice in London over the 2004 purchase of a Ukrainian mining company. Allegations made include murder and bribery. In January 2016 an undisclosed out of court settlement was reached just before the trial was due to start.

A criminal case against Kolomoisky was also started in Russia in January 2016, where he is accused of organizing murders and the use of prohibited methods of warfare.

During its November 2016 party congress Kolomoyskyi was elected into the party leadership of (the political party) UKROP (Ukrainian Association of Patriots).

In November 2019, the New York Times reported that Kolomoisky was behind plans to build a controversial ski resort in Svydovets, Ukraine. In the article, a professor at a local university is quoted describing Kolomoisky as “a leech who sucks our blood here and puts it in Switzerland.”

In April 2019, a Ukrainian court ruled that the nationalisation of PrivatBank was illegal. Ukraine's central bank said it would not be possible to reverse the nationalisation and that it would appeal the decision. Kolomoiskyi states that he has no interest in taking over control of the bank and seeks $2bn in compensation for losses he insists were incurred during the nationalisation.

Wow, just wow.

According to this article, Kolomoysky was banned from the US for years but at some point during the Obama regime was issued a U.S. visa. He has a residence somewhere in the US but mainly resides in Switzerland with his plundered billions. Unbelievable.

The CEO of Ukraine’s state gas company, Naftogaz, is ready to give evidence in a U.S. federal investigation that is reportedly probing the business dealings of Rudy Giuliani, the CEO said in an exclusive interview on Friday.

“I will with a high likelihood be invited to testify in this case,” Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolyev told TIME, citing his lawyers and contacts in the U.S. “If I am called, I would be willing to come and testify,” Kobolyev added.

Federal prosecutors are investigating Giuliani for possible campaign finance violations and illegal lobbying, according to reports published in the past week by Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal, both of which cited unnamed U.S. officials and sources familiar with the matter.
