I have a question about how things work here.

By now we see the OP was duped and posted satire with no links as evidence. Everyone makes a mistake. But this is now disinformation.

What does ATS do with disinfo threads? Are they left up or are they removed to fight disinfo?

I do have other sites that I read daily and I will check this story out.

you didn't answer my question
I made the payments no one else

attempting to put social security and medicade (also which is withdrawn from my paycheck) as welfare or entitlements is a nice trick

I paid for those things no matter how you attempt to spin I did not.

Ah I see you're confusion now.

The money you've paid in has been used by someone a generation older than you already. Your money is gone.

When you get older, you will (maybe) receive your social security benefits from a much younger person paying into the fund's money. You will in essence be handed someone elses' money. Another person earned money, which the government then collected as mandatory taxes and then redistributed to you in the form of social wellfare.

Let me interject here , as you seem to know little about finance.
Let me end your ignorance on the subject with the following :
Are banks representative of socialism ?
How about cashing a paycheck ?
Paying for something with a debit card ?

Denying ignorance....
Why ?
Some folks try to talk a big game , yet fail.

OK, I'm just going to go for the jugular here.

Way to NOT fact check suspiciously obvious BS and happily peddle fake junk instead, OP. Considering the claim in the OP, that alone deserves a rightful ripping and mockery for earning the dunce cap.

I have a hard time taking anyone seriously who tries to 'educate' folks with all questions (especially nonsensical questions). I always imagine its akin to someone who likes huffing and smelling their own farts (not to imply that you indeed like doing so, just that's what it seems metaphorically).

There's no confusion dude. You haven't posted a 'gotcha' or anything, just basic info about social security. You still are missing the point. If I had you mark all the dollar bills that you pay into social security with a sharpie, how many of those personally marked bills are you going to get when its your time to collect (rhetorical questions of course, the answer is none)?

You are being paid with someone elses' money, that was taken from them mandatorily and redistributed by the government. The amount you pay in/take out doesn't change that fact.

Furthermore, how confident are you in the solvency of said fund, and the odds of the payouts valuations changing between now and when you collect?

*Let it be know that I am 100% in support of socialistic programs (and believe we should expand them). I'm merely playing devils advocate in this instance because I so rarely get to pick the brains of those who are gung-ho anti-socialists.

gee, is that how my bank works?
would it be the "same money"?
i would wager not

I disagree.
Accounts are paid dependent upon what is paid in.
I do agree with you point that it is mandatory.

completely different subject, and has no bearing on the discussion at hand imo

my confidence is low

I would submit Medicaid closer to your socialist Utopia than social security, as it is applied more evenly.
But I still pay for it.

Report the thread to the mods (something I encourage everyone to do.) They can then either move it to the Hoax! forum or the LOL forum.

Excellent replies my dude.
I really appreciate the straightforward quality of your posts.

I agree medicaid would be a much easier example to run with but for the sake of relevancy I felt it better to run with Mamabeth's original angle.

as far as I understand there is just one level of "medicaid" no matter what you pay in
so imo that is "socialist"

I don't necessarily like the two, but I think our nation is better off with them.

And the generation behind you will be paying yours.
Call it what you want, I see it as an investment or even insurance.
