This is propaganda.

Just trying to justify the cutting down of trees.

I was just reading about extreme nitrogen environments in a book Im reading , about the apollo missions when they lost the 5 astronauts due to the nitrogen rich chamber they all succumbed to.

We wont want that to happen on earth

but at least we wouldnt suffer as apparently you dont struggle in a Nitrogen toxic death
must be quite a peaceful way to die

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and animals of all ages, we have a solution for the nasty trees that put out trace amounts of nitrous oxide, the solar tree. No gas output. No noisy tree trimmers and chainsaws because there is no wood. No loud leaf blowers, no leaves. No water needed. Order your forest today and save the planet.

I notice no one is talking numbers...

So the paper says that different trees produce different amount of N2O, that'd be expected, so the worse number they give is

4.76Kg/ ha yr
With the estimated forest cover of the planet being 4,033 Million ha, that gives a maximum of

19E9 Kg / yr N2O from trees
From Motor vehicles, i did a bit of a search, found an article (old from 1999) that puts the number worldwide as
0.18E9 kg / yr

So why is that bad? its about 1% from cars. Whats bad is that typically it is heavily concentrated at population centres, rather than being a more diffuse thing. Global car sales also probably place the N2O from such sources as higher now than the number above, given the 10 year time difference.

Alright - so thats one number.

Now N2O is sited as a greenhouse gas 298x worse than CO2 as a greenhouse gas.

SO what is the estimated CO2 emissions world wide?
2015 placed it at 35.9476e12 Kg / year

so you dont need to be an expert to see that...the CO2 load is way way worse than N2O even from trees being the main driving component and it is so by a factor of 6 in its effect as a greenhouse gas by amount.

SOooooo yeah wanna run that by me how people might want to cut down trees? again this place seems to be running with the line of "Be ignorant" rather than Deny ignorance.

Hey that is pretty interesting , there is clearly a lot more going on than we initially thought

i like this thread as I am currently looking into biochar forest development
and this is quite interesting since mostly all of the trees we plant in Scotland are of those varieties

I also have been studying the use of biochar, and the effects of Terra Preta in the Amazon. I used a little bit last year, and am slowly working 4 cubic feet of it into my composter for use in the gardens next year. Be sure to pre charge it with in an organic compost tea with micro nutrients, fertilizer, and some beneficial bacteria, or it will sponge up all the nutes out of your garden.

I had always thought the natural Amazon soil was super rich, but that's not the case. It is poor slay soil. My natural soil here is adobe clay, and I have been mixing in compost for years to improve it. Terra Preta is rich with carbon, and doesn't break down for hundreds of years

Would be nice if new cars could run on wifi then we wont have to worry about pollution anymore

How is Wifi made/broadcasted; electricity. How is electricity made...considering wind and solar combined are less than 3% (2.6% if I remember correctly) of the energy demands world wide, how is Wifi to be made without current nuclear, coal, and gas ? ?

Electric cars and their batteries not to mention being charged every couple of hundred miles (if you are lucky) are an energy consuming proposition once everything is factored into their manufacturing and recycling not to mention the hazardous waste of the batteries..

So not to worry if the socialist communist come to full power and can implement their utopian agenda 2030 there will not be enough of us traveling to worry about it. Just the elite looking down from their Biz Jets and high rise towers as they smile at the idiots below.

Yeah. Cars won't run on Wifi. Broadcasting power is dreadfully inefficient (Tesla was wrong, wrong, wrong).

But centralized power production can produce efficiencies when it comes to combustion of fossil fuels. And, generally, efficiency is good.

Yes, people worry about the emf surrounding a power transmission line... imagine if we were bathing in emf fields all the time everywhere, because that’s what it would take to have wireless power sources for cars that aren’t battery powered.

My mate has a scheme out in Boness near Grangemouth my home town

he has a biochar reaction vessel and 7 poly tunnels and a large greenhouse, his scheme is a food bank community project
and he has a PHd student doing their thesis on biochar and soil activation and the clean up of green belt sites using bio char which renders heavy metals in the soil inert.

Its really interesting, I will need to put up some photos from my trip there to discuss and get a co-op with his group in Glasgow and run them in tandem . The Scottish government has an 8 million grant for these projects so hoping to do a funding application and get one set up through here in Glasgow.

We were also looking at nitrogen fixing, and looking towards mushrooms to assist, as well as using Industrial Hemp as a feed stock for the biochar , as hemp is carbon negative to grow I believe.

I shall be sure to take notes and keep you posted on what we do !

You have to remember though that the study shows that the specific types of tree in the boreal forests of the northern hemisphere produce the excess N2O at different intervals. The study didn't mention any other types of tree around the world
so it may be the case that not all trees produce green house gases to the equivalent of these types or not at all !

it maybe completely different in the southern hemisphere so it would be difficult to get the global data and to make a real guestimate with just those figures.

yes which was exactly the point, it mentions two types of tree in general... and certainly isn't making any statement other than that. The point i was making was that, lets lead with the highest number and do a bit of thinking... unlike, you know, most people who don't even bother to check anything before they start walking around thinking "Oh yeah Carbon is not an issue because Trees"

Its actually interesting , we have the professor of edinburgh Biochar research institute sending my mate samples of different lignocelluloid materials
I asked him to try out hemp as a feed stock as it wasnt on the register.

Im doing the same in my garden as of this year
I think if everyone done this in their gardens whether they grow food or not , would help in a way.

Im going to my mates site in the next few weeks I'll take pics of their pyrolysis reaction chamber and some pics of the biochar samples etc.

There is lots of good data coming from these test sites , specially for food crisis in the UK
my mate runs a biochar food bank

he just won £350K of funding from the block grant from the EU

That is a good Idea , I will need to ask the research students from Edinburgh Uni when I visit my mates site if they have global figures as of yet

I really do think that biochar is a quick solution to our carbon problem
