Another scotch review????

Yup, because I really have nothing better to do(already enriched all that soviet uranium I bought off ebay).

Coming off my last review(that macallan) and an early review of a much pricier entry(Glen 18), this is really the stuff I find more compelling because of it's low cost of entry price point.

It balances well with smoothness, flavor and a nice finish. Light, smooth, hints of fruit with a medium finish. While I tend to look at them as "ubiquitous", the Glenfiddich malts usually deliver, especially for their price points.

I know in the last one some talked about costs, which I usually don't mention, but I think I should. I think, as usual, there is some inaccurate notions on scotch and likely also some regional pricing that plays into that perception.

This one(and the macallan) are "low" priced entries(talking in the upper 40's/low 50's, in my region) for single malt scotch(that glen 18 was 122 at my local liquor store).

So much good stuff in that range(40 to low 60), around here bourbon isn't much different(four roses small batch is about 39 bucks around here).

The point, of the price talk, is that glenfiddich in this case delivers a solid low 3 figure scotch at mid 2 figure bourbon prices. It should(and will, in mine) be a staple in anyones liquor cabinet that likes whisky.

Method of enjoyment: Light on the rocks/room temp.

In my area, it's a bit overpriced(by about 10 or 15 bucks), but it's a good highlander from one of the most regarded houses in the game.

I'll always buy a bottle of 12 Macallan if I just need a good scotch on hand. It's plentiful around here, even in my rural neck of the woods.

ETA: at this point, I'm burnt out. So I'm glad you like them. Because all I'll really author around here is my scotch/bourbon reviews and my drunken(from the scotch/bourbon) reviews of older films.

I agree. It's good and doesn't break the bank.
It's about 60 where I am in AZ.

Edit :
Yeah, the politics threads are getting very tedious and repetitive. I have better uses of my time.

Arizona? or Aussie? If aussie that's something you guys aren't getting screwed on (for once).

If it's arizona the prices seem pretty inline with whats here.

While it may sound like a lot to most, even around here most smaller batch large dist bottles are easily in the 50's, so it's all relative.

American bourbon is aged at a lesser rate than scotland whisky(min 8 years) so a 12 year bottle that is only 10 bucks more than an american bottle aged half that(in america) really isn't all that much more expensive. Thankfully the scots sell there stuff in a lot of countries that have capitalistic price competition.

We should enjoy it while we can, before all those euro countries go islamic and no more scotch can be produced(about 20 years out, IMO).

ETA: Agreed, and sorry I Injected some political crap in my edit.

Honestly, I'm breaking through it. I'll pretty much be posting my (worthless) scotch/whisky reviews and my equally worthless(scotch/whisky induced] movie reviews here. Sure,I can't help myself and will post some of my trademark sarcastic responses to political threads. But overall, I'm done and that # is well on it's way out the door. I, like most, just don't care anymore. Asteroid 2020.....

Really, you think that's possible?
Because that's how you get violence in the streets.

And it's Arizona.

you lost me, violence in the streets from my drunken movie reviews?

While I'd love to think that, I think there is a pretty slim chance.

Well, I'd say it's not a zero chance of your movie reviews causing violent insurrection.

But I was referring to your comment about no more scotch. That's push the big red button grounds.

Ohh, I see. You misunderstood. I meant no more political thread participation. I never meant to infer that I'd EVER stop drinking whisky.

That would just be ludicrous(speed, we've gone plaid) lunacy.

Yup...

In the end these cultures will fall and their eccentricies will be diluted into the lowest common denominator.

I, at one point, in my life wished to travel the world and see all the different cultures in their splendor. But what point is there to travel the world only to see the different physical lands that all the same culture that has conquered.

What splendor that we are all surely missing.

I for one will not stand to tolerate a world without scotch.

If necessary I'll dust off some of my old plans for human extinction and burn this MF'er down before I let that happen.

I think it's past the statute of limitations.

And really, any good scotch thread should eventually touch on exterminating humanity.

I used to buy my old dad a bottle of Glenfiddich 12year old every Christmas. Then I upped it to 15 year old...the 'piece de resistance' came with a 25 year old that brought a tear to his eye. I paid £35 for it some 30 years ago. A couple of years back I found a 25 year old one in a specialist shop in London selling for £149!!!
BUT a 35 year old from cask is £4,500!!!!
