Fair enough, nothing to see here then.
I'm obviously wrong but it's nice to have it proven.

It actually depends on local laws. In some states an EMT can call time of death, in others it has to be a doctor. Even if it's obvious, like say decapitation, they have to be in touch with a doctor, who will then have to declare them dead.
