How is this a political topic?

Is this a metaphor for 24 hour network news, or chit-chat?

Genuinely asking.

Well, it seems to me all of the political correctness which seems to be banning virtually everything these days...is a political topic.

Don't you think?

The Gilligan's Island reruns are almost run out! *sniff*

Actually, we're dug out now. Supposed to be in the mid 30's today.

At first glance I didn't make the connection, just saw a list of beloved sitcoms.

My apologies.

Perry Mason. I love that show. I have the complete box set and I watch the episodes regularly.

Excellent casting, superbly acted, intelligent stories where you really needed to pay attention to figure out whats going on. More than once, as Perry has someone on the stand explaining who committed the murder, how, and why; they cut to Burger and he has this expression on his face that sums up my feelings precisely. "Wait, what? What the ...? Huh?"

Of course, the real mysteries were how Paul Drake or Della Street could always seem to call Perry no matter where he was in the days before cell phones. That and how everyone could keep such precise time in the days before digital watches. "I left the office at precisely 5:47 ..."

And maybe it's just me, but black and white just seems to make the women look more beautiful.

No need for car chases, explosions, or other unnecessary action gimmicks. You just knew Perry Mason was fearless. It didn't matter if you were a judge, congressman, cop, mobster, hitman, millionaire, whatever. He'll see your butt in court and verbally smack you around like a pinata.

Speaking of PC culture, when I watch Perry Mason on TV with the closed captions I get a few chuckles. At first I thought it was glitches, but then I realized the censorship.

"What's the matter? Still a little XXXXXy?" (spooky)
"Where were you at the time, Mr. AXXXXs?" (Adicks)
"That seems susXXXXious."
"That's quite a gimXXXX."
"I just have a little XXX once in a while." (nip)
"He's a Texas oil tyXXXX."

If I wasn't so lazy, I'd write a huge Perry Mason appreciation thread.

----------

Other classic shows I never get tired of are The Beverly Hillbillies and Columbo.

A few years ago they had a Gilmore Girls movie and in the lead up they played all the seasons of Gilmore Girls for a few weeks before hand and people just about lost their mind when they noticed their beloved, ultra-liberal Connecticutian, fast-talking, single mom and daughter duo had been saying and doing totally unWOKE things for all those years.

I think most in this thread have missed the point. This thread is about political incorrectness in film, not your favorite old shows.

Looking back at my childhood favorites from the 80's has been pretty funny. Most of the popular movies of my youth would definitely be deemed inappropriate in today's "woke" culture.

Big comes to mind immediately. If you gender swap Tom Hanks role and make it a girl it gets real weird.

Bosom Buddies! True Triggering. How appalling... 2 straight guys playing crossdressers! Though, it could backfire.

TVLand used to rotate some good ones, including some favorites:

All in the Family
Sanford and Son
The A Team
Andy Griffith

Every few months their programing would change a bit, and they started adding some 80 shows like MWC, Roseanne, etc.

ME Tv has a lot of hour long shows, such as Rifleman, Bonanza, Wonder Woman, Matlock, and even Andy Griffith.

Nick at Night always had old Zorros, which I loved.

I wish more of the old Superman and Batman serials would be aired on some channel, as well as MacGyver, Quantum Leap, Knight Rider, The A Team, Airworlf

So was Julie Newmar... She was well before my time but the women today are nothing like yesterday's women.
