What is the value of Joe Biden not being Trump’s opponent? I would love the debate where Trump asks Joe to tell the story of when he had a chain fight with a guy whose nickname was based on a cereal that wouldn’t be sold for another decade. Because attempted assault with a deadly weapon is always a quality people look for in a President. You know, a history of felonies dating back to t(e sixties.

I don't consider the Electoral College as the will of 'the people.'

Also, the states have vastly unequal numbers in population so saying there are more Red states than Blue states should tell me what, exactly? If there are ten rooms and there a five people in seven of those rooms and 30 people in each of the remaining three rooms, what does that mean to you? That we should be beholden to the numbers of the seven rooms? That's not the will of 'the people.'

So there are two empty rooms and 90 people crammed into three rooms, while only one person in each of the five remaining rooms?

Sounds like some pretty poor property management, a prison or that there is some other special needs going on.

The USA is a republic with a representative democracy. Why would states with lower populations have chosen to become part of the USA if they didn't have equal representation? Why would they chose to stay if that representation is taken away?

Eliminate the electoral college and it would only be a matter of time until the USA dissolved into separate states again, maybe many would reform into another nation leaving out liberal strongholds like NY.

Originally only landowners had the right to vote which would make sense back then because most others would be transient and less likely to vote in the best interest of the state they reside. Things would be a lot different if that rule remained. Elected representatives would be more beholden to the state the ignorant masses would have less say.

I doubt the demographics that gave the House to the Democrats are doing anything but heading in their direction.

Impeachment is going to happen. The Republican Senate will have to acquit a President that has obstructed justice openly, called on foreign powers to interfere with our elections, etc. etc.

If the Senate acquits Trump after America sees what's coming, not only will the Dems keep the House but will probably take the Senate and White House as well in 2020.

Which of course, they will squander away on stupidity as they are the party of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

And not long after winning in 2020, the Recession will doubtless happen and the Dems wll then be remembered as the Party that snatched Depression from the jaws of Prosperity. And all against the backdrop of LA burning to the ground while at the same time trying to pass some loopy socialist legislation against the backdrop of National Insolvency.

The 2020's are going to be a real roller coaster.

They dont have to pass a Constitutional Amendment to eliminate the function of the EC; they only have to get this passed by a sufficient number of electoral votes in key states.

en.m.wikipedia.org...

They most likely will with the result that New York and the West Coast will dictate the outcome of most Federal level elections. That will soon mean the US will be run like Chicago.

Insolvency will follow shortly thereafter.

Take for an example, the States of Wyoming and California.

The votes in the EC for each state is based on their representation in the Congress, thus, every State gets 2+# of Reps which is based on population.

Wyoming has 3 (2 Senators and 1 Representative) EC votes and CA has 55 (2 Senators and 53 Representatives).

California has a little more than 18 times the EC votes Wyoming has. (55/3=18.33)

Why? Because the EC is STILL based on the population of each state so that the argument that the EC is somehow the magic balancing factor between the relative differences in size, population or wealth between States is simply absurd.

What the Founders did not anticipate in their structure of the EC was the domination of political parties.

Political parties ARTIFICIALLY SPLIT THE VOTE OF THE PEOPLE in a given state which the EC was not designed to handle, and winner take all (not in the Constitution, btw) actually THWARTS the intent of the Constitution, which was to have the EC function simliarly to the Congress in terms of balancing States relative power (every State gets 2 Senators, and Represetnatives based on population.)

Add in the false divisions created by political parties (because of the stranglehold they have on the Primary/Caucus process) and you have the mess we are in currently.

Do I want to abolish the EC? No. Should each State's be apportioned according to population? Absolutely.

Insolvency seems to be what we are headed for already. We may already be at that point and it is only being held together on promises.

Let's face it the Trump administration is spending just as much as the Obama administration did and they are not even facing a recession. I know Trump keeps bragging about employment numbers, but should he? They are robbing Peter to pay Paul. With the govt spending a trillion dollars a year it doesn't have the employment numbers better be good. This simply isn't sustainable and at some point the house of cards is going to fall.

Spot on correct and I am surprised Trump hasn't caught on to the problem except that as we all know, Trump is a master of profit via bankruptcy; a technique he perfected in the 1980's. The only reason the house of cards hasn't fallen is because the Dollar is the World's reserve currency. I suspect China and the EU will fix that before long. When they do, the game is over.

Bwahaha. How many times have we heard that prediction from both sides? Actually, if you look at the history of the last 30 or so years, Republican adminstrations are almost always followed by a recession, Great or small. This is because of the irrationality of the Laffer curve that was enshrined by Reagan among other reasons. Economies boom during Democratic Adminsitrations, possibly because of a different view on the distribution not of wealth but of cashflow.

With few exceptions, Americans vary about 50/50 in the party they give the White House to, and they don't seem to favor a one-party government for more than about 2 years at a time.

We'll see, I guess.

Can’t wait for the Supreme Court ruling on that silly little pact. What would a Constitutionalist say....

Article 1, Section 10

No state shall, without the consent of Congress, lay any duty of tonnage, keep troops, or ships of war in time of peace, enter into any agreement or compact with another state, or with a foreign power, or engage in war, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent danger as will not admit of delay.

Some people are gonna get spanked, hard. But I think the general thought is to wait until Cali has to give all 55 votes to Trump first just to show how stupid it is.

California has the fifth largest economy IN THE WORLD as compared with NATIONS.

New York's is 15th IN THE WORLD.

Perhaps the Coasts know something after all, eh?

The comparison with Chicago is just so old (which by the way, is in fly-over country along with Detrioit not the Coasts).

Take a look at the poorest US States, and ask yourself, were they Red or Blue in the last election?

I don't consider the Electoral College as the will of 'the people.'

Then you are not very learned in Presidential elections , the Constitution , the Founding Fathers' insuring everyone's vote counts , so on and so forth
Believe in the "Democratic" mob rule , I see.

Denying ignorance .
Why ?
I haven't performed my due diligence for some time.

What would California’s world economy be if there was an absolute trade embargo with China due to a trade war? Alternate question what would their economy be if Cali left the US (voluntary or just kicked out)?

Hint: Both NY and CA really, really need those ports. Teleporters or shuttlecraft like in Star Trek kills those ports quick, so technology is not on their side over time.

And, this is exactly why our founders set up the system we have. And, you will never, ever, get the other needed states to ratify changing the constitution to get rid of the Electoral College.

Because, we are a Republic of States. Not, a Democracy.

Find a book on it and read it.

End of story.

I would not say that exactly. There can be a whole bunch of campaign commercials based on this exercise of the absurd. Don Quixote is still known for jousting with windmills. Seems like a rational quirk in comparison.
