For at least the ten thousandth time since Trump's bid for the presidency began, the dems are declaring he's finally done. They have the smoking gun.

Of course, reality doesn't quite match that. A smoking gun is a piece of evidence that can be matched with all of the testimony and other evidence to prove the crime committed. But that's where this "smoking gun" falls short.

It's not evidence, it's testimony. Not only that, it's testimony in direct contradiction to multiple other people's testimony including a statement from the people trump was allegedly "extorting" for personal gain. Not only that, it's testimony that directly contradicts the facts on the ground. Taylor alleges the "quid pro quo" began in august of 2019. However, according to the prosecutor general of ukraine they had reopened the investigation (quid) in february of 2019.

Then you have to consider that there is still no crime here. Trump asking for cooperation on investigating corruption is not illegal or unethical. Even tying ukrainian aid to it is not illegal or unethical. It's like russian collusion, there is no underlying crime being alleged. Just dastardly sounding accusations.

Now, let me cut right to the core of this "testimony" with this:

It's highly convenient that in june and july, there was no quid pro quo that taylor was aware of. Then suddenly in august/september he becomes aware of it. What happened in august? Well, the whistleblower (alleging such a quid pro quo) comes to schiff's office. So at the exact same time that democrats become aware of (or fabricate) an alleged QPQ, mr taylor does too. What luck!

Let's take a look at the timeline:
May: zelenskyy becomes president, trump sends congratulatory letter
June: Trump and zelenskyy trying to work out details of meeting (as talked about in letter)
June: Hold is placed on ukrainian aid
July: Trump speaks on the phone to zelenskyy
Up to this point there is no "quid pro quo" (QPQ) that taylor is aware of
August: Whistle blower with 2nd hand knowledge says there's QPQ in the phone call and runs to schiff
August: taylor finds out there is QPQ
September: taylor texts sondland about QPQ, sondland says there's no QPQ
September: Hold on ukrainian money released
September: taylor tells ukraine not to get involved in US politics (announce investigations)
September: Trump meets zelenskyy

So let's get this all straight. The alleged QPQ was that in order to meet trump and secure their military aid from the US, zelenskyy needed to start investigations into biden and the 2016 election and publicly talk about them.
1) zelenskyy has denied being pressured to investigate
2) Ukraine has both recieved their aid and met with trump
3) The investigation was going on before zelenskyy won
4) Zelenskyy has not publicly talked about the investigation
5) The fairy tale told by taylor in his testimony has no evidence to back it up and the evidence he refers to actually undercuts his fairy tale.

Taylor is also falsely being represented as our ambassador to ukraine. He is not. We do not have an ambassador to ukraine right now. Trump fired the prior one, yovanovitch, in may. In his written testimony he claims he has been heading up the embassy in ukraine since may 28th, yet according to Ukraine he didn't take up that post until June 18th. From may 28th to June 18th the US embassy in ukraine was headed by a woman named kristina kvien. Now, maybe this is innocent and he met with pompeo like he said on may 28th but was unable to go until June 18th and thus the short interim of kristina. If anyone knows how to check SoS visitor logs I would be interested to find out if he even met with pompeo that day.

So yes, now they've got him. William taylor delivers the smoking gun. LOL

Quid pro quo is not really relevant, though it is fuel for the fire.

What the hell is the POTUS doing when bypassing the state department and the DOJ and using his personal lawyer (with his shady connections) to seek foreign assistance for his reelection campaign?

Maybe we'll find out.

I'm not sure why you guys think corruption investigations are "seeking foreign assistance for his re-election campaign."

"Us guys" think so because he specifically said "Biden."

And "us guys" have heard that certain benefits were contingent upon a public announcement that such an investigation was being undertaken.

I guess we won't be seeing Bill Taylor's transcript either..

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., on Tuesday said a fellow Republican lawmaker deconstructed a key part of the latest Trump impeachment inquiry witness testimony in Tuesday's closed-door session.

"In 90 seconds, we had John Ratcliffe destroy Taylor's whole argument."

The questioning by Ratcliffe, a Texas Republican and member of both the House Intelligence and Judiciary Committees, was an important moment in the hearing, McCarthy claimed.

McCarthy added House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., is not allowing lawmakers to speak too specifically about the proceedings, in an interview Tuesday on "The Ingraham Angle."

"Adam Schiff won't let us talk about what happened," he said regarding U.S. diplomat to Ukraine Bill Taylor's closed-door hearing on Capitol Hill. "There is no quid pro quo."
Source: www.foxnews.com...

However, If McCarthy is lying, Adam Schiff would take great pleasure in proving it, by RELEASING THE TRANSCRIPT.

If Schiff doesn't release the transcript, we should assume that McCarthy is telling the truth.

The trial doesn't start until the case reaches the Senate.

I would certainly hope not.

But it seems that the Administration's argument is that the president does.

Corruption is a pretty broad term.
Can you be more specific?

Using the power and influence of his vp position to enrich himself and his family. Selling influence. Etc.

Well, that sounds vague enough for grounds for impeachment. But he's not in office so that's probably moot.

But of course the DOJ should investigate such matters. But it's a different matter to ask another country to conduct an investigation. In such a case there are treaties involved and treaties involve protocols.

Do you think treaty protocols are important?

The sanctions against Iran is Quid Pro Quo, why is this not an issue? Because the policy direction by the Council of Foreign Relations is not up to its neck in corruption like in Ukraine.
