China has released the first picture of a spacecraft that has been developed to reach Mars.

Beijing aims to land the explorer on the Red Planet in less than two years to celebrate the centenary of the ruling Communist Party, according to the country's chief space scientist.

All teams are now ready for the launch of the probe, which is scheduled to take place next year, the scientist revealed.

China unveils its Mars explorer set to land on the Red Planet in 2021 to celebrate the centenary of the Communist Party

Wow, if they all make it safely there will be 3 new spacecraft on Mars in 2021.

China's craft will go to Mars and fly around it. Then it will land on and survey Mars. If successful it will be the first time a single Mars craft has ever done this by itself.

Good luck to all, three is company.

Good luck indeed.

It ain't easy to land on Mars.

Not sure a single spacecraft is the optimal method though.

The Chinese engineers are the best in the World. What they've been doing lately in space is astounding!

They must be. Their probe is ready to launch already. NASA and ESA are still packing and testing.

It's amazing what people can get done when upsetting the government can result in getting imprisoned or worse. Along with their families.

Cynicism aside, I'm excited for this probe to launch!

Too bad that doesn't translate into their industry products.

Ummm...yes...when you hack and steal designs and technology...it does give the false impression that your fast rise up the gravity well is somehow a wonderful accomplishment...

However...all things considered...it only proves your a thief and charlatan...not the best and brightest...

So...thumbs down...
...to the Chinese...and their intellectual theft preference over actual development...

So...no cookie for you...and may their probe crash and burn on entry...if it even makes it to the planet...

But...yay...space cotton...cue the marching band...

Color me...totally unimpressed by any of their achievements...

And
to the way they treat their people.

China has hacked and bought it's knowledge of space. The USSR and the US paid for their knowledge of space with lives.

The US and Russia have decades of experience and you can't hack or buy that yet, that I know of anyway. When the space race heats up the US will show them who's boss.

I still wish their probe well though

I've seen enough "made in China" junk to know you MUST be kidding.

Hahaha, funny one!

The Chinese system of social culture not only promotes brain dead robotic behavior and mindsets, it actually made it illegal to think for yourself.

That is why China cannot lead the world in innovation - it's illegal to be creative and think outside their little totalitarian box.

Until their govt collapses, they will be relegated to theft and spying.

Chinesium, anyone? That's the well-deserved derogatory name given to the low-quality Chinese steel alloy they use to make their products.

They can pack it up now if they want, but launch windows for optimal transfer trajectories to Mars are currently dependent on the orbital positions of Earth and Mars. Those launch opportunities happen about every 2 years, and the next one is in 2020.

NASA may not have their 2020 Rover packed and ready for launch yet, but there's no reason to have it ready yet. They just need to have it ready when the launch window opens next year. NASA's launch window is from July 17 to Aug. 5, 2020 for a February 2021 landing.

Sorry, that was a joke. Should of used /sarc

I am sure China is still packing and testing. You don't just let an interplanetary spacecraft sit in storage for a year before launching it.

The Galileo probe being a tragic example.

Although they "borrowed" the design of their manned Shenzhou spacecraft from the Russian Soyuz. The Shenzhou is a slightly scaled-up Soyuz.

As other said, the Chinese aren't exactly innovative. They just build on existing technology originally developed by others.

So if we can do space together, then why the # cant we do Earth together

this blows my mind

If Russia , the US , Europe and China can work together so easily in the pursuit of science and expanding the human species reach into our solar system, why do we all go under the pretense we are enemies and nearly on the Edge of some global war !

Its #in ridiculous , we are all sold the lie we are enemies , but we arent

I disagree.

America leads the world in innovation and creativity, not to mention technology.

American engineers are the best in the world, one of which many nations, including china, send to learn from.

What they have been doing in space is what we already have done and experienced.

Pull your nose out that chinese arse, we get it, you love them.

hopefully they dont fake it like they did with "their first spacewalk" show.

they released what the 'tyconaughts' said before they said it live and the clouds change direction a few times in the video that would require ENORMOUS wind speeds never seen on earth.

I hope China gets their act together and shows us the real deal, humans need to go to space as a whole world(not factions).

i envy they people that will go to Mars
