He (Trump) doesn't care if he hurts feelings or offends.

It's actually quite refreshing!

People like Trump because he plays to their prejudices making it OK , we see it played out here daily.

I don't like him but no better options.

I remember the good old days when people knew the left from the right and who was the good guys and who was bad.

I disagree
hillary was the worst possible candidate the dnc could have offered
I think bernie would have beaten trump

I also think a centrist dem candidate would beat him in 2020, but that is not what we are presented with.
gun grabbers and outright socialists are no where near what the majority of the usa wants in a leader, so trump will win again

The Electoral College would have not voted for Bernie. How could they even consider it when Trump's positions were nowhere near Bernie on almost every single issue. No way that happens. Hillary was their best shot. If you really look at Hillary and Trump they were a lot closer on issues than most think. Bernie was way off the map.

I agree.
The left has moved too far left.
Trump has spoken out against the crazy.

I don't have a lot of faith in the dnc returning to anywhere near mainstream any time soon.

Centrist democrats may need to rebel and form their own party. There needs to be an alternative.

How? While some may thing we are divided by left versus right, it is more like globalism versus nationalism. Those on the left who rail against the 1% SUPPORT the 1% by promoting globalism. How do you at this point find a fence to sit on in the middle?

A centrist probably would have, but that's making the assumption that Democrats are out to be reasonable. That ended a long time ago. They're owned by the hard left at the moment, and until that ends, there won't be another centrist in serious contention for anything from that party.

I agree
IMO trump isnt really a republican in the traditional sense
He projects being american really well, the american dream you know.

He's not a conservative Republican, but he never ran as one, either. Instead, he ran *with* one -> Pence.

He did run as an economics, America first guy. At the time, the country needed an economics, America first guy.

Obama always gave the impression that he was more concerned with how the everyday Zambians would prosper if he made a treaty with Zambia over what it would mean for the regular folks in his own country.

And the economy in the US was suffering hard so regular folks were working overdrive to keep from tanking every month.

Trump promised to make sure that he'd take America's economic interests into consideration first before worrying about what a treaty meant to everyday Zambians which is really up to their own governments to work out, not ours.

And he is absolutely right that dishonest trade practices around the globe have been fleecing us. Husband works in international business and sees some of it all the time.

How about America first democrats? The ones who believe in the idea of the country and constitution and could really appeal to the blue collar, rust belt votes like they used to.

I agree with the first half of your post.

As for the second, I don't think there are any centrists left on the dem side. They've gone all in on the Alinsky thing. There are no John Kennedy types coming from that side. It's all they've got.

Gabbard imo was close.
She is not far enough left for them.

Trump imo beats what has been currently presented.
Sanders may not make the contest due to health reasons, and he sold out last time.
Warren is a 1/1024th a liar and I don't think she escapes that label in the general
Biden is a walking disaster, is he going to threaten african americans that they will be put back in chains again?

the rest aren't going to be given a real shot

bernie was the "change agent" last time
when he fell out trump was the next closest thing, that and he was simply not hillary

Warren's even more of a liar than that.

She's walking around telling the world she got fired from teaching because she got pregnant, but it's been uncovered that this is a bald-faced lie, and she' behaving the same thing she did as Fauxcahontas -- she's maintaining she's telling the truth even in the face of documented proof it's a lie.

an alternative to far left and far right would be successful imo
but the rnc and dnc get to make the rules, so unless some grass roots shows up and kicks them in the butt I dont see it happening
trump is center enough for most to be ok with
we americans tend to "settle" a lot between trump and crazy we will settle for trump or not show up to vote at all

yep
and if the media doesnt vet her before the general she will be destroyed
but her stories are piling up, wonder what is next for her? some kind of #metoo?

No, you're just not listening to the Democrats's campaigns correctly.

Those taxes will never be for me. They're for evil, greedy rich people who have more than me and rich businesses who gouge me for stuff I don't have to buy but do because I *need* it. And then, I get all the free stuff!

That's what too many people hear when they listen to a Democrat campaign speech.

Guess we will never know. Nobody is getting elected who just had a heart attack I know that much. Willing to bet that fall in the shower was also heart related.

he blew up his following when he sold out to the dnc
he was done wrong and did nothing about it(well he accepted a lakehouse)
imo his following was larger that trumps through most of 16
not so much today

Sometimes it is hard to explain to people "why" a large number of the country supports Trump. They just do not get it.

Below is a great write-up about the subject from a California mayor. Read it before they remove it.

The mayor of Livermore California explains Trump’s popularity and success. This is perhaps the best explanation for Trump's popularity:

www.linkedin.com...

The Left has been engaged in a war against America since the rise of the Children of the ‘60's. To them, it has been an all-out war where nothing is held sacred and nothing is seen as beyond the pale.. It has been a war they’ve fought with violence, the threat of violence, demagoguery and lies from day one – the violent take-over of the universities – till today.

The problem is that, through these years, the Left has been the only side fighting this war. While the Left has been taking a knife to anyone who stands in their way, the Right has continued to act with dignity, collegiality and propriety.

With Donald Trump, this all has come to an end. Donald Trump is America ’s first wartime president in the Culture War.

Big problem, this takeover of universities never happened, in fact nothing he said has. Violence, demagoguery and lies from trump and his deranged support, repeatedly, yes.
Mayor shows himself to be massive doofus shocka!
That they are long debunked and someone thought it apt to start a thread on it however, raises other questions...

A LOT of people were.
I do not think they will forgive him.
I also do not think the 2020 version can generate what he had in 16.
