Sometimes it is hard to explain to people "why" a large number of the country supports Trump. They just do not get it.

Below is a great write-up about the subject from a California mayor. Read it before they remove it.

The mayor of Livermore California explains Trump’s popularity and success. This is perhaps the best explanation for Trump's popularity:

The Left has been engaged in a war against America since the rise of the Children of the ‘60's. To them, it has been an all-out war where nothing is held sacred and nothing is seen as beyond the pale.. It has been a war they’ve fought with violence, the threat of violence, demagoguery and lies from day one – the violent take-over of the universities – till today.

The problem is that, through these years, the Left has been the only side fighting this war. While the Left has been taking a knife to anyone who stands in their way, the Right has continued to act with dignity, collegiality and propriety.

With Donald Trump, this all has come to an end. Donald Trump is America ’s first wartime president in the Culture War.

I think the Stones said it best.

Trump isn't what anyone wants, but he might be what we need.

Whether they like it or not, Trump is a creation of the left.

If not for the authoritarian left, I'd never consider voting for Trump.

Now, I'll vote for every populist bare knuckle brawler that comes after him as long as the left continues to employ Alinsky style tactics. Fire with fire.

As Dan Bongino says, "New Rules. We win, you lose".

They've stepped on the snake. Now they get the venom.

That was an interesting read.
I think his popularity can be summed up by his habit of speaking his mind.
We have had to many presidents that are afraid to stir things up.

Winston Churchill was not the best prime minister.
He was the right prime minister for the time.

Trump is just what the GOP needed.
Brash.
Unapologetic.

I still subscribe to the theory that hillary was a crappy candidate and not many people actually liked her.
The "basket of deplorables" and the "private position/public position" quotes killed her.

I don't think trump was overwhelmingly popular as much as hillary was very unlikable.

The continued discontent of the losing dnc doesn't help.
Had they just let trump make his own mistakes the upcoming election season may have been very different.

It wasn't "just" Hillary though.

She represented the shrill, caterwauling hordes of campus thugs and government slime that has plagued free thinkers for the better part of fifty years.

About 99% of his voters.

The problem is that the crazy left is running the DNC, and they have the press and academia and Hollyweird in their back pockets creating a ton of peer pressure along with social media backed by big tech.

It takes a balls of solid brass to stand up in the face of that because even though what that big powerful leftist bullhorn creates is the mere illusion of cultural consensus, it's a powerful illusion. Most people find it hard to walk upstream against it, and it can crush you and break your spirit. It's how they've been winning.

The DNC won't return to sanity until certain aspects of our culture do, and I'm not sure how you wrest them out of the hands of the left.

People like Trump because he plays to their prejudices making it OK , we see it played out here daily.

"The Left" seems to mean anyone who doesn't agree with Trump , the use of Left vs Right through his campaign and Presidency makes it so much easier for him to work his magic.

I disagree
hillary was the worst possible candidate the dnc could have offered
I think bernie would have beaten trump

I also think a centrist dem candidate would beat him in 2020, but that is not what we are presented with.
gun grabbers and outright socialists are no where near what the majority of the usa wants in a leader, so trump will win again

Heh, more like Trump took control of the Overton Window so that simply calling someone racist, sexist, misogynist, homophobe, bigot, et al., was not enough anymore to end discussion of an issue.

I know, I know, you guys don't like having to actually debate an issue on its actual merit. That's hard.

Can't say I agree more. The leftist media has intentionally made Trump into the hero martyr that his supporters see him as.

They know exactly what they're doing. Reverse psychology is very effective in getting people to support a clearly corrupt businessman/politician. He's rewarded the ruling class with a trillion dollar tax cut and sold weapons to a terrorist regime that cuts journalists who question them into little pieces, and his supporters haven't budged an inch.

Good job leftists. 🤣

A centrist probably would have, but that's making the assumption that Democrats are out to be reasonable. That ended a long time ago. They're owned by the hard left at the moment, and until that ends, there won't be another centrist in serious contention for anything from that party.

I agree with the first half of your post.

As for the second, I don't think there are any centrists left on the dem side. They've gone all in on the Alinsky thing. There are no John Kennedy types coming from that side. It's all they've got.

I agree.
The left has moved too far left.
Trump has spoken out against the crazy.

I don't have a lot of faith in the dnc returning to anywhere near mainstream any time soon.
