Is he asking for dirt?
No. He's asking them to work with our AG to look into possible corruption that biden has bragged about.

That's the same thing. The simple act of asking the leader of a foreign nation for dirt on a political rival is illegal. No matter the motivation. Frame it any way you want, it doesn't change what happened.

So if you are running for political office, you are immune from not only prosecution, but even investigation???
Sounds pretty sweet, if you are a politician.
What elective federal office holder isn't running for re-election... other than a lame duck President?

If the AG or other investigative body find evidence or were tipped off to possible illegal actions they could investigate that and do what they needed. (see Clinton's emails or Trump's campaign in 2016 though only one of those was kept secret during the election but thats a different story.) We have whole divisions in the FBI that are tasked with investigating US persons actions in foreign countries and working with said countries law enforcement.

A president making congressional approved aid contingent on foreign governments investigation of a specific US person ESPECIALLY a political rival, while getting your VP to deliver an in person message reiterating it, and your diplomatic core being informed to continue the messaging in the continuing weeks is the problem. This is where the problem lies and where people are upset.

All we need is evidence that this happened.

We have the "not transcript, transcript" from the white house where the presidents mentions the Bidens directly as part of a favor, we have the VP saying he delivered the message but didnt know what it was about in the days after the call to the president of Ukraine, and we have text messages from diplomats asking for clarity of the very thing the president asked for.

And now there are news reports that Ukraine was looking into the Biden corruption issue since February.

did you hear the Ukrainians had re opened that investigation in feb of 19?
MONTHS before any review of funding or phone calls were made?

you may want to look into that

what we were "told" is not the entire episode
would you still like to impeach on that?

And that matters how to the presidents actions?

I can tell you have not read the transcript released for yourself. Link to Transcript

Don't take anyone else's opinion or analysis as fact. Read it. You will find that on page 3 the first sentence is Trump asking for the 'favor'. Read ALL of page 3 to see what that request was in regard to. (Hint: not Biden). You will find the first and only snippet mentioning of Biden and his son on the next page 4.

So there is no 'direct reference' there.

How is there a quid pro quo if they were already doing what you are claiming that trump was 'forcing' them to do.... before he 'forced'?

if the potus knew about the re opened investigation he was not asking to open anything, was he?
potus asking about an ongoing investigation is vastly different than what is being interpreted by some in the media as him asking to open an investigation into his rival?

tho your mileage may vary
I wouldn't attempt to hold this up to the standard of high crime or misdemeanor

imo the dems do at their peril
we are still a fair minded people

Yeah... except the only place that actually happened is in your addled brain.

If I'm not mistaken the president has a constitutional mandate to enforce the laws of this country as head of the executive branch. Powers granted to an office by the constitution are not superseded by any other laws and would require an amendment to change that. So looking at it under such light I don't see how anyone could be investigated if there is a reasonable cause for investigating, which in this case there sure seems to be.

Plus, the US and Ukraine are under a treaty of mutual assistance in matters of criminal investigation.

Incorrect. If you actually believe this show me the statute.

Law enforcement is part of the job of president. We have a treaty with Ukraine, passed by congress, to work together to go after corruption in both countries.
