What did the Kurds to for Americans?

Well … they remained Islamic, and what else should they have done?

I guess they failed.

So we should stay at war in the ME ?

We are not at war in the ME. There are a small number of military personnel there assisting local efforts to maintain order. And it is working.

With this order, Trump has not removed personnel from Syria. He has moved them out of northern Syria. He has made room for Turkey to move into northern Syria where the Kurds are. Kurds fought and died (in great numbers) supporting our efforts. Erdogan calls Kurds terrorists. The only thing keeping him from destroying them has been the American influence in northern Syria. Erdogan wants to destroy the Kurds. Our allies.

Now, sure. The Kurds might be terrorists (I'm sure Erdogan can be trusted, Trump seems to). But that's why I would ask the opinion of those who fought with them. Against ISIS.

There's more than one group of Kurds. The PKK, the YPG and so on. Some Kurds even took part in the Armenian Genocide.

Which Kurds are we "abandoning"?

Trump is not protecting American lives by this move. The number of U.S. troops there were minimal. It was merely the presence of our troops and the fact we were the Kurd's allies that prevented Turkey from action. He didn't magically remove our troops from a war. He simply paved the way for Turkey to attack the Kurds, and that it is.

I'm sure his buddy-buddy relationship with Putin, and his hotel in Turkey had nothing to do with it.

Oh.. I guess I understand now. Trump stated

"They didn't help us in the Second World War, they didn't help us with Normandy, as an example."

Oh, well NOW it makes perfect sense! Thanks Don! Pfft, no wonder he wants to bail on those losers. Helping the U.S. with ISIS is not nearly as glamorous as WW2, obviously. Morons - what do they expect.

I wonder at what point his constituents will realize that a lot of what Trump says is not trolling, but Trump just being an idiot.

I say let Turkey just take out The Kurds and ISIS. If Turkey is in charge, ISIS will be permanently removed from that region. They aren’t bound by the same crazy war rules like America is. ISIS will be hunted down and killed.

These stupid wars over bible book verses has got to be the largest failure in the history of mankind. Let em all die for their gods so we can progress for crisake.

Everybody is there for business interests pretty much, kurds included, if its human walks talks and farts, thats what it comes down to, personal interests for them or there group. There is not much going on on the global scale regarding humans or anything else besides that.

Nor can there ever be.

But this whole stay out of the middle east should have happened 30 years ago, or better not happened in the first place. I would say its to late now, your damned if you do, your damned if you dont. So whatever the case, this tip toeing, oh im in, oh im out, oh look my toe is over the line again, ah no its not, im out again.

Its #ing retarded. You either do or you dont. At this point you flip a coin as it would not matter either way. But whatever side comes on, you stick with it.

This was a big mistake by the administration in my opinion. These aren't target dummies, they are real people and we had a cause to protect them. I am opposed to this action in every way shape and form.

Give them back the land that was known as Kurdistan. This was land that was in Iran, Iraq and Syria. Where is the United Nations on this? Lots of misinformation as to who the Kurd's actually are; historically and genetically, a very ancient people dating to the time of Sumeria/Assyria.

This is dirty. Our president is dirty. Even our republicans have blasted him on this. He’s basically enabling ISIS again and allowing for Russia to come in and take over. This is exactly what Russia has wanted and as we all know, Trumpster just loves appeasing the Russians. Civilians are already dying.

Its not about what they've done for us, but about what they can do for us in the future. The Kurds are like a group of survivors during a zombie apocalypse that actually wants to live while all there neighbors are raping murdering bandits who steal what they want and lead ruin to those who just want to live.

You might not know this, but the Kurds have been waging a war against Turkey for decades. Groups such as the PKK have bombed multiple civilian and military targets indescriminatly. They have a lot of blood on their hands. Women, children, the whole 9 yards. For example the March 2016 attack that killed 37 civilians and wounded a further 125. The PKK targeted civilian bus passengers.

The kurds are also mostly hard left. They're Socialists and communists. The actively disaprove of the American way of life. Considering the average US citizen to be greedy and as having low morals. They accepted US help because America was better than ISIS, not because they loved the American way.

I don't personally think that their entire population deserves to be bombed by Turkey, they are human beings after all, butt hey aren't innocent victims in all of this. Turkey has a lot of reasons to want to kill them, and the US would do the same in their position.

As of 2019, no. You can walk down any street and see roadblocks or security patrols.

I was referring to handing over the reins to the remaining coalition-of-the-willing countries to continue the work of protecting the Kurds

Turkey? Russia? Syria? Iran?

Who, other than us (US)?

We are the ones in northern Syria. The ones who just today, are leaving. Bye. See ya. No plan. No agreement. Because our president said so. After a phone call.

Not the USA's place to be there. Syria wants us gone and it's Syria's country.

You are wrong. There is a plan, an agreement and it's between Syria, Russia, Turkey and the USA. Notice how Syria is not rushing to defend that place haven't ya? If Syria is not prepared to defend their land, why should the USA defend it for them? Syria is not our friend or anything. And yet, Syria has not had regime change has it? Nope. Assad's still there. Russia and Iran still have his back. And none of those troops are heading to the border area. Just Kurds. Why the Kurds? Because the Kurds wanted that area as their "homeland", their own sovereign country. And they were told NO by everyone in that region but they don't want to take NO for an answer. Their problem, not mine.

Syria was willing to let them govern those areas all by themselves but the Kurds were not content with that and so they are left with nothing. Everyone knew that Turkey was going to take that buffer zone except for y'all obviously. They've been talking about it and Turkey has been bitching over a year now about it.

The Kurds were NOT abandoned. They knew all about this withdrawal and Turkey taking this buffer zone. The fact they refuse to accept this is not my problem. If they don't want Turkey to have it, they can fight for it. No one is going to help them in this. NO ONE. Not even Syria, who's land is being taken for it. Wonder why that is? Only the Kurds have a problem with it. I don't even see Iran saying anything. Just some people that don't have a clue what's going on.

As far as allies go.... Russia was the USA's ally in WW2. It wasn't Germany. It was Russia but I don't hear anything about that inconvenient fact of history at all, as I all I hear is Russia bad, Russia bad, Russia bad. Why is that? Not that long ago they were the USA's ally. Russia has been more of a friend to the USA than many others.

This was never a *forever war* (like Afghanistan). The Kurd's knew they had a time sensitive nation building KEY TURN occupation of northern Syria they could create as a homeland that already has built in oil fields/revenue. It is theirs for the managing. Turkey just wants the 20 mile buffer zone between borders (or so they say).

This is the problem with so many posts on here, a lack of critical thought. You are not seeing the bigger picture at all. The Kurds were your allies. They saved American lives. America knew what could well happen if it stopped protecting them. This means that the trust that America relies on for intelligence and cooperation from locals (anywhere in the world) is now going to be zero. Not just in this location but anywhere. How safe will that make you now? How many lives will be lost because you didn't have the locals giving you assistance and intelligence in the next (or current somewhere) hellhole? What Trump has done is very temporarily reduced the danger that some of your soldiers were in, in exchange for massively increasing the danger overall. How hard do you think it will be to convince people to help you? Incredibly hard. So that puts your soldiers at huge risk. But yeah, Trump is a genius and those who disagree with him are triggered by his trolling..
