So as Iraq joins the list of countries that have their own people uprising against them with violence in the streets the government has now -

Imposed curfews
Deployed elite forces to secure key facilities.
Shut down Internet to stop the people organising protest.
Killed protesters.

The attacks on anyones freedoms anywhere it seems these days is reaching epidemic proportions, 9 people have been killed and 200 injured as the people fight Prime Minister Adel Abadul Mahd's now 12 mth rule.

Are we witnessing a Global uprising against oppression finially taking root?

Iraq like many middle eastern nation was only formed when the western powers withdrew in the years following the second world war, these regions had been ceded to the west by Turkey following the surrender of Germany in the first world war - despite the fact that the Turk's had not lost on there front but were drawn down by the collapse of Germany after the first world war sanctions and blockades had bankrupted it.

Fearing a resurgent ottoman empire with which Europe had been at constant intermittent war for over 400 years the decision was made by England, France and the other western powers after the US forced them to hand those territory's there freedom to leave them divided for strategic reason's, a puppet monarchy and government were established in Iraq for example by the British when we left and the state of Kuwait was also invented at the same time.

What you are seeing today is only partially a result of the gulf war and has root's going much further back, during our time in charge of Iraq the British were actually far better to the people than the Turk's had ever been but even during the Ottoman period the region was always divided along tribal line's and wars often happened between these tribes.

Syria was one of the first Christian nation's and adopted it's King Christianity as it's state religion long before Constantine did, it was never part of the Roman Empire so it was an independent church that still exists today called the Syriac Orthodoxy but Syria was invaded by the Muslim conquerors and many of it's people forced to convert while other's suffered generations of persecution and butchery, despite this the Christian's there were never the problem and Syria also was always divided despite Russian and Syrian propaganda that claim's contrary as indeed is Islam itself which when it is not attacking Non Muslim's is often persecuting it's own minority's or at war between the two main factions Sunny and Shia whom half the time hate one another's gut's more than they do no Muslim's.

Into this the west put there large stirring spoon in the early twentieth century but it was already a fermenting cauldron of discontent and each and ever faction that rises to power there is merely a temporary state of affairs such as the Bathists and Saddam Hussain whom may be regarded as just the latest film to congeal on the surface of that bubbling mess before the west once again stirred things up there with our great big spoon.

What you are seeing today is

An infringement of human rights, murder for expression of oneself, oppression of progress, refusal to invest in the people by supplying public service and jobs, and economical rape for selfish gain.

But who is behind all that? Sounds very familiar and it seems like you know but missed pointing it out

There's no gain or is it? To avoid pointing it out already

Screw 'em. It's time to pull out of the Middle East. Nothing will help these people. These are the most belligerent people on the planet. Nothing we've done in 30 years of combat there and dropping bombs there has made any difference at all. It's just a chaotic mess as it has been in the 90s. We've spent too much blood and money on the Middle East. IT JUST ISN'T WORTH IT.

With frakking we have secure oil supplies. We have NO interest in the Middle East at this point. The US military is bankrupting the country. Time to rebuild our own country and strengthen our country economically so we have the tax base to finance our military!

No can't, it involves leaving a giant power vacuum someone else will make sure it's filled soon enough

It has never been about 'democracy' or any other fake excuse, it's all about power sr

Oil? That's just like the " standard response" to things people don't even can get, but it brings up good arguments to keep people busy so yes

Ok, I think it's Xi Zinping.

I think china is secretly shoring up it's global power position and is instructing those who want Eastern protection and a promise of non occupation by china, russia & co if infact triumphant in the upcoming global conflict.
Testing Adels stomach for outright oppression at any human cost to prove himself worthy of being left alone post confict.

For me it's about playing the hand of most likely outcome. (To them)

I never suggested this to answer your last question to see what others thought to try stop the thread being all about that statement itself as clearly that is just speculation. At this point.

Kind of like a gangster having to blood in to prove themselves worthy.

The chaos is by design in order to keep them divided.
Our western leaders will never let us leave the middle east.

Exactly.................. There is no way these regions will be truly independent post withdrawl. Russia, Turkey and China are just waiting for that day

Ohio Kent State, U.S...student protesters, kids...shot dead by National Guard...on Nixon's direction. I was there.

**"OHIO" by Crosby, Stills and Nash tells the story...in part, I've quoted lyrics.

"Tin soldiers and Nixon coming, we're finally on our own,
This summer I hear the drumming, 4 Dead in Ohio....."
Chorus in part:
"Gotta get down to it, soldiers are gunning us down...shoulda been done long ago,
what if you knew him, lying dead on the ground, how can we run, when we know?'

Call me crazy, but I'm going to chalk this one up as failed foreign policy (not that it was much better before we were there).

Believe it or not, the US actually supports quite a few oppressive states.

Saudi Arabia
Egypt
Turkey
Bahrain
UAE

Just to name a few.

In fact, if you google it, there are people claiming we support most authoritarian governments. Their claim can be argued as what defines support, but their claims are typically "backed" by evidence of various forms of aid.

You are correct but I am guessing you are meaning the Tory party policy's within Britain itself and if so I absolutely agree one hundred percent that this is exactly what they are doing to there own people, add to this Class cleansing forcing the poor out - the residence of Grenfell tower were even blocked from there own communal garden's so that the rich so and so's could use them but they could not despite paying a charge for them.

I also have to agree with Lagomorph were Oil is concerned it is most definitely a deciding factor in ordering the invasion of these country's and in the destabilization of there regimes when they are not playing the game our tycoon's want them to play, boot's on the ground are just the poor sheep being sent to rob that oil from another bunch of poor sheep.
But it is only a part of the equation if you take a step back and look at the larger picture over a 1400 year period and the history of these regions, most of these nation are actually very young states.
