Figured this would be a good starting point for discussion of what will be showcased at the parade today, we've seen some pictures already begin to trickle out.

The Malan Triangle revealed.

Supposedly called the GJ-11.

Might be the WZ-8.

I can't help it. Those DF-17 look fake as hell. Mockups, right?

hi there,

i am hearing a lot of people reviewing the parade saying the same thing,
espcially some of the unknowns, Take the DF100 images as an example , but other images i have seen also look fake too...eesp the close-up images look very `wooden`

not the first time a nation has done this to boost there Mil image, so no real suprise if they have.

A mockup is typically a LOT lighter in weight, too. Which is probably a consideration since you're putting a lot of wear and tear on the streets of the parade route.

Depends if they are painting the lawn green and routing the parade back onto itself to make it look bigger..

What do we think the flight profile on that supersonic drone is? Landing gear implies it returns to a runway, but the lack of an intake makes me think it's rocket powered.

Release from bomber > boost up to altitude > glide over CVN > glide home??

Someone in the PLA has watched You Only Live Twice a few times too many.

The gyros seem more like something you'd expect to see at an Iranian military parade, not one from the country that built the J-20, lol.

Hey, autogyro is probably about 10% the cost or less than that of a small helicopter or Predator-style UAV in maintenance and purchase cost. And it would do essentially the same job for scouting at the ground unit level, with no opportunity to be jammed. You could maintain it with the same motorpool guys that take care of trucks and jeeps, so you can take it with you anywhere without a lot of extra support or dragging avgas/jet fuels around.

I don't think it's crazy. "Odd", yes, but just because the West does not adopt flying jeeps and prefers multimillion dollar vehicles for that role, doesn't mean it won't work.

Except any kinetic counter UAV system is going to be even more effective against a larger, squishier gyrocopter.

I would be confident taking on a slow moving autogyro with an M240, moreso than I would a Raven orbiting overhead.

Although I'd be the first to admit that I don't know the performance characteristics of a modern autogyro.

Another view...

Edit: are they trying to copy an unmanned drone? But not?
