According to Reuters 38 cracks on 810 aircraft checked?


WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Boeing Co (BA.N) said on Thursday that airlines had inspected 810 of the company’s 737 NG jets around the world and found 38 structural cracks requiring repair and replacement of the affected parts.

So ~5% failure rate of a part designed to last the plane's entire lifetime occurs at ~35% of the anticipated lifecycle?

Planes with lower hours will presumably fair better, but this is going to set up a lifetime 's worth of new rigorous inspection schedules for a part expected to last a lifetime-- and presumably there's going to be a lot of looking at batch numbers to find any common variables. Still a mess. I

At least they caught one early, I guess.

That's actually been expected for several years. Aeroflot said in 2015 they didn't need them. It's just surprising it took this long to make it official.
