As long as Democrats are labeling everyone who disagrees with them deplorables and racists and bigots etc I don't see how.

You can't meet halfway or come to an amicable agreement with people like that.

Uh-huh ... I am asking you if the system we have an the reality of it is still serving the common good.

The US spends more on its socialized school system than any other developing nation, and the more we spend, the worse our results are. This echoes pretty much every other pattern with socialism in the world. Sooner or later, it becomes a giant money pit of diminishing returns because of the corruption in the system.

Apparently trump threatens a civil war if he's impeached.

www.marketwatch.com...

And as I reread thru this thread; a lot of trump supporters think so as well, and even welcome the American Apocalypse.

And in the off chance that a demb. is elected in 2020, the right wing won't just roll over and accept the the deep state, fraudulent election.

The hatred is building and somehow must be released!! This will be trumps civil war and it will be glorious....MAGA

Apparently trump threatens a civil war if he's impeached.

Apparently he doesn't.

He tweeted a statement made earlier that day by a pro-Trump pastor and attributed it to him. Those were not his words, just like the first line of this post is not my words... it's yours. The tweet did not predict a civil war, but a "civil-war-like fracture" in society. The noun in that is "fracture." "Civil-war-like" is an adjective that describes the noun "fracture." It was also not a threat, but a prediction. if I see someone driving like a maniac and say "he's going to have a wreck," and I later come across him sitting in a ditch, did I threaten him? No, I made a prediction.

It is statements like this, trying to make a mountain out of a molehill and twist words around to say something they don't that will lead to a civil war. It's also statements like this that make others ignore certain posters.

A lot of Michigan's problems, like Flint's water, were bigger than a one-term Republican governor. For instance, he didn't build Flint with lead piping. That happened decades ago, and no group of politicians since has done jack squat at any level (state, county, municipal) to address it -- Democrat or Republican. It was his bad luck to be the one in office when it came to a head.

No he decided to cut corners and change Flints water supply which had contaminated pipes. Had he not changed their water supply to save money it wouldn't have happened. People knew the old pipes were contaminated and they did it anyway. Everybody lied about it knowing it the problem was there and they tried to cover it up. In my book Snyder had to known but they just don't have proof to charge him.

I'm not sure the US can be reunited. The left and right now have far differnt goals.

I certainly don't want any Civil War in my lifetime.

Honestly, the Democrats/left scare me. They seem hell bent on taking away our rights, gods-be-damned with the "outdated" Constitution. I'm not a fan of the right either, but at least seem more sane.

But I really do wonder how long we can keep going on like this where both sides are at each other's throats. There's no more debate, only pushing of agendas to get the uper hand.

2020 concerns me, but 2024 worries me.

It wont be glorious i can guarantee that. But if your ignoring this Ukraine stuff you are ignoring how bad it is. The Dems pushed the russian thing really hard, right from the beginning. If it is really there in Ukraine isnt that a whole lot worse than what Trumps doing? Theres a lot that shows its there. Are we building these allies or are we using them for political warfare? If thats how they are really doing things doesn't that scare the hell out of you all? Obama care, Obama care was how many pages? How many read it? They are not doing their jobs at all, everything they are doing is empowering the party. Why you think the republicans are staying shut the hell up? On the surface of what Trump did should be petty. They do it all the time, its how we are involved in all these countries. “How we build up our Allies”. Why is it so bad to look at it in the open? Whats it do? Whats the worst? See nothing there, once again Trump proves he’s and idiot. Why wouldn't it trigger a war? Proof positive we been hi jacked. I think it will be a silent one. If its not it will be stupid riots and nothing more, they do a pretty good job at curbing those. Theres a reason the CIA has so much surveillance. If we don't bring back some balance the alternative to a civil war is much worse. What do you think is going to happen when you start forcing your ideas on China? Are you watching Hong Kong? What about Russia? You ready for that hit?

Will you be surprised at all when Hilary suddenly enters the presidential race?

Agree to disagree, and stop trying to impose personal opinions/beliefs on others. It only heals by all Citizens once again recognizing institutions as genuine (through major staff purges/prosecutions where applicable) and by all Citizens working at all times toward the goal of "more liberties" and never less.

We need an entire generation of Citizens to understand their duty in the Republic and to the Republic, and that our liberties have to be jealously guarded. Any person even hinting or insinuating at limiting our Constitutional rights should be treated as extremely hostile to our individual freedoms and responded to accordingly.

There is no greater or more heinous act of violence than to assail the god-given unalienable rights of a free people. It is unacceptable and should never be tolerated. Appeasement, compromise and deal-making is a non-starter. The only compromise is "my rights begin where yours end, no gray area in between for government/mobs/etc"

This is getting way off topic but just look at Finland. Private schools are prohibited in Finland, yet their education system is world class. Here in Australia, we even sent an envoy to Finland to find out what their secret is. Turns out, every school receives proportional funding, no matter what socio-economic area it is in and there are no class barriers to education. All their teachers must have a Master Degree to teach. Teaching profession is on equal par in respect in Finland to medicine and teachers are paid very very well.

Well obviously we can’t blow it all up and start over. So the next best thing would be a war. We are not smart enough to be pro active and fix problems before they happen, without the threat of loss. Hell I dunno anymore a war may not even unite us democrats would probably have a hard time rallying behind trump in war as well, not even sure if they would vote on a declaration of war if we got nuked because they would think it would make trump look good..

Maybe a miracle aliens landing on the White House lawn with a cure for cancer maybe, Or maybe a war with aliens that might scare the sense back into these spoiled cry baby politicians but it would probably be short lived. 👽

Flint was on the Detroit water system which was safe. The old pipes which draw water from the flint river were the problem. Had Flint stayed on the Detroit water system it wouldn't have happened. They knew there was a chance the old pipes were contaminated and they decided to switch to them anyway so they could cheap out. People are going to jail over this because they lied and covered it up. They would rather let people drink water with lead in it then admit their wrong doing. This goes right to the top to people Snyder appointed to over see it. The old pipes were contaminated because they're weren't used in a long time. Why should anyone maintain them when they weren't being used? In stead of paying to upgrade the existing network of pipes they switch back to the old ones that were decrepit and contaminated.

Here I'm going to elaborate and give some more insight into the situation. There are 3 water systems in south east Michigan. Detroit which gets their water from the Detroit river. Port Huron which gets their water from Lake Huron. Then they'res the Flint. The reason Flint switched to the Detroit water system is because DuPont polluted the hell out of the Flint river with chemicals. So Flint switched to the Detroit water system . Port Huron and it's water system are closer to Flint then Detroit. Port Huron didn't get it's water system until after Flint was already on Detroit water.

They never expected Flint to go back to the Flint river so they never maintained the pipes. Corrosion built up in the Flint river pipes causing them to become contaminated. Since Detroit is so far away from Flint and the system needed to be upgraded Snyder gave to go ahead to switch back to the Flint pipes. Either he knew there was a chance they were contaminated or just didn't care. After it came out there was lead in the water and people were getting legionnaires they tried to cover it up.

The pipes in Flint weren't used for decades and for good reason. Why should anyone have maintained them when they didn't think they'd be used again?

Because Flint is so far away from Detroit it would have cost money to upgrade the existing network. That is why they went back to the Flint pipes.

I know quite a bit about the watershed here because I've spent 2/3 of my life on the water fishing.

The Detroit water system is far from safe also. There are chemical factories on the St Clair river dumping cancer causing chemicals into the water just upstream from the Detroit water supply. These chemicals have shown up at the water treatment plant. I know how water treatment plants work and they can't remove these chemicals. By federal law every time these chemicals showed up at the water treatment plant they had to notify the press. I use to read the paper every day and once in a while in the back section of the paper there would be a small write up the chemicals were found in our water.

Republicans have been in control of my state 16 out of the last 24 years. They've let the corporations do what they want with no accountability.

Here is a fun fact. POTUS Trump has not divided anyone... The ones using fake claims about the POTUS dividing us are the far left-wingers and those in the right whom are in fact "progressives" aka RINOs.

So by the mod claiming he/she was looking for "a uniter", he/she is just agreeing with those whom keep using LIES to divide the nation.

I believe that most people's views truly are centrist, albeit, they may have one issue, abortion, second amendment, etc. that are extremely important to them. The real problem is that people are not realistic in regards to how they fit into the country, what is beneficial to them and how these things should be funded. Most of us want jobs, decent benefits and the ability to live our happy little lives without being bothered by big brother. We get annoyed when we see somebody getting something either we think we should have or they shouldn't. This can be riches or someone collecting welfare for some BS reason.

There are policies on both the right and left that can be beneficial.

First, welfare is BS. Having said that, there are a lot of infrastructure projects that could be beneficial to this country. We can create infrastructure jobs. If you are on welfare, you are going to do some work to keep collecting.

Second, healthcare/medical benefits. There is a whole lot of misunderstanding, a whole lot of waste and whole lot of BS in this area. We can fix that by cracking down on people/organizations that steal. We need to provide real information to people how this really works. We can take perverse incentives out of the system that increase costs on everyone. People are going to need to accept that if they have some really awful diseases they are going to die and we can make them comfortable, but, we are not going to spend millions to keep them alive. That unfortunately bankrupts the system.

Third, we need to deal with violent crime in such a manner that those types of criminals never see the light of day again. Mental disease that leads to violent crime also needs to be dealt with much more harshly. That should reduce crime and reduce the need to have automatic weapons to defend yourself. There is going to be compromise. Second amendment to bear arms is fine. It is not fine to have an arsenal that can kill 30 people in 30 seconds. Compromise folks. If we remove the threat, the need to defend should be lower.

Fourth, immigration should be minimized to people that can create jobs in the U.S. But, we don't need to put people in cages to enforce that. If we need a temporary labor force from Mexico to fill jobs that other Americans don't want, we should do that. They didn't come here on their own. They came here because we enticed them with work, sometime illegally. We need to deal with the fact that they are here and fix it via a rational manner. After that is done, shut it off.

Fifth, global warming is a fact. Its science. Global warming is why 4 will become more important. More folks will want to immigrate to countries that have resources, i.e. the U.S., Brazil, Canada and China. Everyone else is going to run out of resources. We need to protect ours. We don't need to kill ourselves economically to do that. We can encourage people to do some simple things that are cheap. 1 plant trees and get rid of your lawns. Its cheaper and it is a net minus carbon emission. 2. Hybrid cars reduce emissions a lot and they are cool to drive. They are not more expensive. They are certainly cheaper than large SUVs and Pick-ups. Increasing the MPG requirements is not an economic burden. Gradual migration to windpower and solar is economically feasible. City expansion and increased footprint size needs to slow down or stall out. Revitalizing urban areas should reduce crime and slow the issue. Fixing 1 and 3 should make this more attractive.

Sixth, we should make clear to our foreign allies and foreign countries what is required for our help and cooperation. If your people are shouting Death to America in the streets daily, go pound sand. If you are stealing our technology, we will get it back and leave etc.

Seven, what people do in the privacy of their homes or with their bodies isn't anybody else's business. However, if you self identify as something other than your outward sexual identity. Either have gender reassignment surgery and don't tell me about it, or keep it to yourself. You can't expect the world to conform to every single issue in your life. Figure out how to fit in and move on. The rest of us don't care.

Eight,we need a social net, i.e. Social Security, Medicare and some unemployment benefits. I am retired at age 54. I had a stint of unemployment in my life that made me understand how acutely we rely on others for our own well being. I also made millions in the merger and acquisition field that allowed me to retire. There are a lot of cut throat people in that field that will put thousand out of jobs to increase the rate of return on their investment. The people working in factories and offices that are the targets of these people have no chance. We should be compassionate for these people, not discard them. I benefited from this system personally, but, I also saw how cold and cruel it can be. In particular to people who are around 50-60 who lose their jobs before they are ready to retire and essentially can never find work again through no fault of their own.

All of these things are achievable. Rant of a middle aged white male. I am sure I offended most everyone. I am conservative on some things, liberal on others. I am also very pro America. We need to act together. That means helping each other in a respectful manner. It also means that some of your precious beliefs, which are inflicted on others may need to be loosened a bit. If Betty down the street gets an abortion. We may abhor the act, but, the fact is it isn't your body, your decision etc. MYOB. Life is easier that way.

This is straight out of the academic textbooks mate, not my opinion.

Well, after the great new civil war Im sure toilet tissue will be scarce, but I wont be at a loss of material for arse patting. Universities are full of "academic textbooks" and I will be sure that those will be my TP. It will be very self satisfying to use those books of nonsense as they are intended.
