The Demon Lunar
Things aren't like they were before
We're building towers to the sky
One year passes, then pass more
We work and wipe our foreheads dry
Things aren't like they were before
A quiet city, peaceful sky
People gathered at the shore
Trading stories, food and lullaby
For long ago, the moon got mad
And swallowed up the sun
The city cried and trembled
And the rivers ceased to run
Our prayers failed to save the Earth
And darkness crossed the land
We ground our knees into the dirt
And rocks into our hands
The moon saw how we anguished
And grew drunk on blood and tears
It spat the sun back out again
And slept for many years
We're building towers to the sky
To beg the moon for peace
For still it comes to eat the sun
Too high for prayers to reach
So when the moon awakens
And returns for further feeding
We fill it with our sufferage
And quench it by our bleeding
No volunteers step forward
Yet the offer must be made
A lottery among the crowd
Must serve to aim the blade
The fairest method to decide
Who dies to save us of our sins
With all our numbers entered
In a contest no one wins
Our sacrifice will save the sun
The day is drawing sooner
A random draw to choose the ones
Who feed the demon lunar
Things aren't like they were before
We're building towers to the sky
One year passes, then pass more
We work and wipe our foreheads dry
Until one day you hear a knock
There are people at the door
The moon is back, and hungry
Things aren't like they were before
