They have a horrible reputation with who?

Anyone that can do their own 10 min of research and doesn't have to be spoon fed what is truth and what's not........

Apparently you're not familiar w that method....

I disagree that this is an ad hominem fallacy. Snopes' trustworthiness
speaks directly to their credibility as an authority figure.

It's the use of one fallacy of relevance to attack another. I don't recommend trusting Snopes or any authority figure simply because they are claimed to be authority figures.

Whether a claim is true or false has nothing to do with who makes the claim.

Imagine that David Mikkelson was a judge you were about to go before, and you learned this. Would you still consider him credible?

Not at all. Nor would I consider the opinions of any judge credible unless they were conclusively supported by sound logic and verifiable facts.

While a track record of dishonesty certainly doesn't befit an honorable judge, the history of law richly illustrates how "good" judges are just as capable of rendering bad judgments as "bad" judges. Perhaps not as often, but often enough to make the point.

No one is infallible, which is why assuming otherwise (trusting authority) is a fallacy, and dismissing claims due to an absence of infallibility (disreputable source) is also a fallacy.

Maybe he only embezzled from the Democratic Fact Checking Fund. Their truth meter there was always off kilter compared to the Urban Myth Section...

Have we reached the point where no-one can be trusted, at all ?
Or was it always a 'no-trust' existence ?

No government nor politician.
No oversight agency.
No purveyor of goods nor services.
No news organization.
No NGO, nor public institution.

Is there nothing trustable ?

Is every single one of us a lying dirty scoundrel ?

Nope, and you can be sure it isn't true because I say it isn't true, and you can trust me because I say you can trust me.

Since anyone can be wrong -- and indeed, we are all wrong an awful lot, if not more often than not -- then no matter how virtuous and well-meaning anyone may aspire to be, they still can't be trusted.

In other words...

Trust no one. Suspect everyone.

Agreed. Personally don't believe anything, as in: nothin.
Don't vote, or encourage the scoundrels other than a few unavoidables.

Still keep some money in a bank, so there: am clearly trusting an institution that is untrustworthy.
We probably do it in other ways as well: manufactured food; trusting labeling; etc...

Perhaps they have got us by the short and curlies ?

Met a guy who told me that he had tried to 'disappear' once. He lived in the city, but was unregistered anywhere.
Did so apparently for 2-4 years.
He had to 're-emerge' when he needed a healthcare program.

If you don't trust anyone: do you still vote, and keeps monies in a bank ?

I reported this a while ago, December 2016, with another source.

EXCLUSIVE: Facebook 'fact checker' accused of defrauding website to pay for prostitutes

The "Facebook fact checker" is Snopes.com.

Here is the original article.

EXCLUSIVE: Facebook 'fact checker' who will arbitrate on 'fake news' is accused of defrauding website to pay for prostitutes - and its staff includes an escort-porn star and 'Vice Vixen domme'

BTW, the new wife of the owner of snopes is still a prostitute, and she also writes articles for snopes.

LOL....What a den of sleaze, hopefully all this will bring the site down, the fact (and probably the only true fact about Snopes) that pretty much the entire company is open to extortion and blackmail just makes the whole site unreliable.

And his prost...er sorry, wife has let herself go...

As for the sex vixen, just make sure you have had your shots before going near her

Why would they label it false?

This is the guy who we are supposed to trust to tell us what rumors are true or false, according to our digital overlords.

The president uses hookers and his fanboys love him. Don't see why using hookers would be a problem unless your a hypocrite.

Ya, that $98k is more than the $85k Bill Clinton had to pay Paula Jones for sexually assaulting her.

If it didn't bring the site down since 2016, when it happened, I doubt it will now. Certain people want biased sites like snopes to determine what is true or false and no matter the corruption of it's owners and authors, and the lies they have been posting for years none of this has affected the site.
