Yeah, the European Conger eel is the largest in the world (supposedly), but it doesn't live in fresh water, it spends it's entire life in saltwater.

The European conger (Conger conger) is a species of conger of the family Congridae. It is the largest eel in the world and native to the northeast Atlantic, including the Mediterranean Sea.

So impressive as the Conger eel is, it couldn't be the Lock Ness monster, the monster would have to be the European Freshwater eel that lives it's adult stage in freshwater.
