I have no idea what you are talking about and it has nothing to do with my post. You come on a tourist visa and then claim you have cancer and need to stay. Tourist visa's are widely abused for that and other purposes. It's used a lot for creating anchor babies too but that's another post.

The unofficial posture is that few people can afford to live without working for more than six months. Because people coming to the U.S. on B2 [tourist] visas are not allowed to work, they will in all likelihood be issued a maximum six-month I-94. If the entrant is seeking medical treatment that may quite reasonably be expected to take more than six months, the determining officer can issue a one-year I-94 without consulting a supervisor.

Getting the on Medical Deferment Action is no easy feat either.

They come on a tourist visa with the expressed intent of overstaying it. Three of my wife's family members have done it. It is extremely common.

They abused other programs to stay. They planned to have her cousin come here on a tourist visa and then use medical deferment but since so many of them have overstayed tourist visas they wouldn't give him one.

Blame the abuse for these programs ending.

So. If they were found to have overstayed their visas, were they deported, or maybe their sick relative just didnt meet the qualifications to get a medical deferment.
It's not that easy to get one. And, like I said, you cant fake cancer..

That's where I am. Those who came here honestly but got caught up in the situation I have no problem with. I suspect none of the actual needy ones will be deported; the ones who planned to abuse the system will. They still have three weeks or so to get their stuff together on this.

What I am actually expecting is a follow up letter from ICE asking for further information with which to make a determination.

I'll lay the blame on Trump for not allowing time to get everyone on board... he should have taken a little more time to make sure everyone was ready for the changeover from USCIS to ICE. If a candidate pops up before the 2020 election that has a record of keeping promises, making good economic decisions, enforcing border laws, and can do a better job of rolling out new policies, I'll give him a look and maybe a vote. Otherwise, I'm not sure what else to do. I will NOT vote for anyone who believes in gun-grabbing, open borders, excessive socialism, or any version of that laughable Green New Deal.

Just not gonna happen.

I am curious, if the one Guatamalan family has been here for 16 years and filing a deferrment request every year, why did they not simply seek legal status. According to the NY times the parents have been doing quite well working and providing for the health care of their own daughter. They admit that they believe they have to stay in America due to their daughters care, so why didn't they pursue actual citizenship?

Blame for having to have the program curtailed, yes, so do I. There is the concern that even ICE was caught unprepared, though.

The point is that despite that minor issue, the narrative that Trump is bad simply doesn't wash in the present political climate. His errors (and yes, he makes mistakes like any human) are dismally minor compared to any of the other choices we have. The phrase "I could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose a single supporter" is often misinterpreted: yes, he probably could, since the other candidates would be setting off nuclear bombs on 5th Avenue (that is metaphorical for those who are English-disadvantaged).

I will call him out for that one issue, but that does not lessen my support for him in other areas. It's about individual policies, not individuals.

Maybe, then again maybe not.. they are just saying that they will consider their applications, if those applicationd were pending before they ended the program. If you applied after Aug 7, they aren't. You will have to go through the deportation process and I guess there is a procedure to request a stay of the deportation after you get the deportation order.
I think if I was one of these parents I would be pleading with canada for help. I wouldn't count on this administration for crap. I dont even think heartless Chaney would be this heartless.
