It's about the emotes. Not the logic and reason. This is actually why trump won, too. He got the emotes out to vote and he's backed it up with logical positions that have borne fruit.

I read the thread about the order from Trump and I was very disappointed. I heard the same old emotional personally insulting canned comments we’ve been hearing for three years.

Trump is not hiding his scorn for free-market capitalism.
He behaves like a child trying to imitate his Idol Putin.

He imposes tariffs, paid by US Companies and Consumers, then hands out "exceptions" to those who favor him.
He "orders" private US companies to cease doing business with other private companies.

"I am the chosen one"
"our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China."

Lord...can you imagine if President Obama had uttered such ridiculous things?

The GOP who defend him are not Republicans, the are aspiring communists, fans of Putin and defenders of dictatorial aspirations and cheering state-run industry.

If ever I need to discern the right-wing's true aspirations, all I need to do is examine what they are accusing the left of..

The Deficit?...Budget Deficit on Path to Surpass $1 Trillion Under Trump

Free Market Capitalism?.....Trump’s Tariff Exemptions Pick Winners and Losers

Obama accused of posing as a religious figure?....Trump: 'I am the chosen

Obama Golfing too much?...Trump (and other presidents) Golf Count
Who has played more golf as of the 2 year 91st day mark of each respective presidency? ***Spoiler alert: Trump has spent 170 days at the golf course vs Obama’s 65***

Now they are shouting about Bernie being a Socialist, then defending Trump actually trying to dictate to free-market businesses from the WH

The right-wing has thoroughly abased themselves virtually molesting every principle they once stood for.

And no, Trump is not a dictator, he is too incompetent to pull that off, but his worshipers cheering him on and defending his efforts has clearly shown America that the Far Right is morally bankrupt and no longer worth entertaining seriously.

At this pace I am not even sure Trump will get the GOP nomination in 2020.

And with everyone working according to trump. Who will staff the returning industries. Mexicans...lol

Let's be practical....Legal or not, it just ain't happenin. Americans are so addicted to Walmart cheap sh!t, they will never kick the habit.

Maybe the people making all the garbage in Hollywood can get real jobs in manufacturing and do something useful for a change.

Maybe they can. But if you really feel that way, don't watch any TV< netflix, or movies on that 50in smart TV.
I know you meant it as a personal insult, but I feel blessed to be in a creative industry, with creative people and a strong community. I'm at work now on location in the EPK trailer downloading todays rushes. Union Proud, Union Strong.
I have been insulted on ATS so much, it has little effect but keep it up...it keeps me real, and aware of how lucky I really am, to be manufacturing dreams, fantasy and escape for many people around the entire planet.
Peace, my sad angry brother!

Lucky to be working around pedos?

Seriously that is wtf.

There should be mod intervention for comments like that.

Sure, Step one is the President admitting that his utter incompetence at negotiation qualifies as a National State of Emergency and declare one.

Then he can go ahead and block future investments in China via the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.

Congress can over-ride him, but honestly by then, the majority of congress, GOP included, will be strategizing how to remove the idiot from the WH ASAP.

Hey, have you heard the one about how Trump wanted to Nuke Hurricanes?...he is the Chosen One!

Are you always so pleasant ?

That wasn’t the question I asked . Any chance you could answer mine which is on topic?

I thought about debating you on the last post. The majority of the issues have been discussed countless times.

But then I took a look at your karma. Decide to look at your post history and took into consideration the way you frame your posts.

I decided why bother you seem angry and nothing would come of it . ( no offense just my interpretation )

But I could be wrong.

I’ll tell you what .

Say one positive thing about Trump and I’ll debate you one issue at a time.

To prove my sincerity, I defended Hillary when she joked about a drone strike on Assange and the Russian hat fiasco . I did it because I knew it was a joke and would do the same today . ( I’ve despised Hillary for going on 30 years now. But dishonesty like that isn’t right )

If Trump loses in 2020 I hope John Delaney win’s because he makes the most sense .

I didn’t like it when President Obama won either time. But I supported him because he was my president.

I can do things like that because I am a mature rational adult .

If you can come up with one thing good to say about Trump. I’ll debate those issues with you but preferably on a new thread so this one doesn’t get mucked up. Because I suspect our debate is going to go on for a long time .

Strange. I thought I answered your question precisely.

But then again, you didn't ask a question as much as tell me what I am thinking? And erroneously so.

Not really interested in those kinds of dishonest "debates"..."So...what you are REALLY saying is...you eat babies!"

Telling other posters what they think is a child's tactic.

I maintain his words dont mean anything. It would be the death knell for his campaign if he froze large American companies from doing business with China.

It takes time to work out new supply chains and move their labor operations to other countries (Vietnam etc) with slave labor wages. And you better believe that's what will happen before anything ever comes back to America. This idea that he's going to force large companies to move back to America is laughable. Capitalism dictates these companies are going to find the next cheapest route. And that isn't in this country.

Not to even mention how bad it would tank the economy. China is a problem, but the way Trump is going about it is straight up idiotic. I'm genuinely curious how he did in his economic classes in college, but it seems he sued to keep his transcripts secret. If he does go through with it, I can only assume he's tired of being President and is trying everything he can to get this millstone off his neck. No one in their right mind would cause a worldwide recession.

"Trade wars are good and easy to win"- is a statement that should have made it apparent how little he understood about any of it.

You would have been better just acknowledging that the OP has educated you and thanked him for it.
Doubling down on stupid is not a good look.
I am not sure you realise how ridiculous you sound when you pit your own knowledge of Presidential powers against the actual sitting President of the USA.

Well done OP.
S+F.
I'd mentioned the national security powers the President has in that thread and yes, largely ignored. Facts don't matter at all to those that hold such hatred they'd burn down their own country to attack Trump.

It is a form of war. Costs can be high in war, but people do what they need to do to survive. I think things may very well get a lot hotter then most people expect. There is no telling what the Chinese will do, if they begin to fail. No one is blinking on either side. Fortunately our leader has good track record lately at winning. He may just win this one too. We have been losing through countless administrations before the current one.

He needs to unite the parties.

No, he doesn't. That isn't his job
Besides, rational poeople already fully understand that the pure hatred and vitriol coming from the left can only be dampened by the left themselves. It's kind of pathetic to scream insults at the President every day - from Hitler, to traitor, to .. well you get the idea.... and then cry about not being united.
Take some personal responsibility and begin the process of uniting. The ball is in YOUR court as it is with every individual, not the President's.
I look forward to your efforts. Perhaps an initial step would be admitting you were dead wrong about the President's power wrt to US companies operating abroad? Maybe thank the OP for some great information that educated you? There's nothing wrong with that - I learned from this thread as did a lot of people I would imagine.

If China doesn't do a deal by the end of the year, the USA could proceed with deals with the UK and the EU, pass the USMCA, lower interest rates and watch as China's supply chain falls apart.

The problem with Chinese (as a regime) is that they are infamous for stealing IP and reneging on deals made. If they have no integrity, if their word is not their bond & if bribery & corruption is their stock in trade, then who can do business with them?

Trump is correct that companies will flee to non tarriffed countries, like India or even the US for sufficiently advanced manufacturing. Like Black & Decker did.

He's also correct that their own monetary devaluation (manipulation) has eaten most of not all of the hit to US consumers, so far anyway unless the remaining 300 billion is tarriffed. In other words the "trade war" has been to China's detriment.

The Global economy however, with US as the main engine that drives it, could begin to falter & sputter.

Without the US consumer, China would be screwed.

Trump is also right that China has been moving 100's of billions of dollars from the US for decades.

So they're really at the table now.

That's genius that no other POTUS would have been able or willing to go to task on.

Trump is protecting and advancing US interests.

Biden, Warren, Sanders? These people are not up to it, & I'm pretty sure that things would fast start going to hell in a handbasket if they can muster enough Trump hatred to win and get their way with this grand experiment they propose conducting, with the Republic of the United States of America.

And this is the problem you see. It's too dualistic, too divided. The choice is so stark that there is real choice.

What if Trump loses? What if, God forbid he dies of a heart attack, naturally.

I worry for the domain of free and independant thought and free self expression.

I've been banned from Twitter, twice now.

Won't they need our help and hand of friendship if it doesn't go THEIR way, or vice versa?

Scary and dangerous times this predicament, this high level quandary we've all been drawn into in the socio-political sphere.

Be brave and never allow your voice to be silenced.

Be blessed (not blessed be),

Ankh

Star and flag from me too. There is no research any more. Let me rephrase that: There is little effort to research beyond seeking confirmation of opinion.

Now for my opinion on the issue of the legality. It doesn't matter, the president will be forced to cease. Doesn't matter how many precedence examples or times it's been used. The argument in the cherry picked judge's courtroom will be that "THIS time it's unconstitutional, THIS time it must not be used." And the judge will agree and we continue running the country from the courts and downward spiral continues.

Thanks

I’m not so sure .

The IEEPA Has been challenged twice.

The first time was when Carter froze Iranian assets. The supreme court found that he acted entirely within constitutional powers .

The second one was by a charity with links to terrorist organizations. It ended up being settled before it went to court. They were allowed to distribute funds to approved charities then dissolved .

So the only caselaw is the first case. It doesn’t mention any variables on why it’s done. They only ruled that it was within the presidents power .

Earlier somebody said Congress could overturn Trumps order.

Congress can’t revoke a executive order. Instead they need to enact new legislation to nullify the law under which the order was issued . Which if they did trump would naturally veto. Then they would need a 2/3 majority that they’re not going to get .

From my research the other day.( specifically dealing with the IEEP) I can’t find one case since it’s inception where a court has overturned the executive order .

If he does it I think it’s going to be hard for anybody to do anything except delay .

Thank you for proving that Trump is, no matter how much they like it or not, our Commander and Chief when push comes to shove. People better start listening because it will be detrimental to their business if they don't.

People all over need to stop buying foreign crap and invest in American made products only as much as they can and never buy anything from China, lord knows the product wont last anyway.

There are many ways to avoid China and a gazillion ways to make our home great again.
