People will ask you to do things. Every time you do something someone asks you to do you submit to that person. There's no problem with that when it doesn't go against the law. You even get rewarded. Either you live isolated in solitude all by yourself and for yourself like buddhist monks in a temple who depend on given food by the locals. Or you serve your community, because you can.

Even Jesus came to serve.

A historian usually is a witness or close to the events. First gospels were recorded about 70 years after the "Jesus" time.
