In that time period it was believed that the earth was suspended upon the backs of animals such as elephants and snakes.Knowing that the earth was suspended in space I would say is quite impressive for those people.

If there was a physical tree in Jerusalem which is the center of the world that reached up to heaven, it could be seen from the four ends I mentioned earlier.

"Once again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world [cosmos] in their glory." -Matthew 4:8

Cosmos? Hehe. So the Diablos [Adversary] is in control of all of cosmos in your bible? Please understand that this is a vision created by the Satan to trick Jesus. Here the Satan places both Jesus and himself on top of a gigantic mountain. In the biblical allegories mountains can mean many things. From God himself or his kingdom, to the pyramids of Egypt. Now what was your question?

Everything is allegorical material written in the pen of truth. Every word of God is tested like silver and gold seven times. It's a spiritual book that serves truth on several levels. This book isn't mambojambo you know. God seemed to know several things we can only today explain. From genetics to medicine via laser technology and electricity to quantum physics.
