Word on the street is that Trump is preparing an EO to allow censoring of the internet by the government.

"In practice, this executive order would mean that whichever political party is in power could dictate what speech is allowed on the Internet."

Don't like what is being said in politics, we can fix that.

I hope this falls by the wayside. Rah USA.

I don't believe this, but if it is true, the Trump is a #heel asshole mother#er son-of-a-bitch anti-free speech authoritarian douche-waffle.

Pardon my language.

I thought that was already in our future. Every single year it gets closer and closer to the inevitable. It was simply just a matter of when, not who.

I want to be shocked but I can see the lead up. Hopefully staff helps to stop this idea in any form.

According to CNN, which obtained a copy of the draft, the new rule "calls for the FCC to develop new regulations clarifying how and when the law protects social media websites when they decide to remove or suppress content on their platforms. Although still in its early stages and subject to change, the Trump administration's draft order also calls for the Federal Trade Commission to take those new policies into account when it investigates or files lawsuits against misbehaving companies.

I read your link, and as far as substance of the supposed EO, that is all I could find. The panic of the source (commondreams.org), seems a bit preemptive if all they are doing is clarifying how and when the law protects suppression of content by social media companies.

This not them (the feds) suppressing content, but the fed trying to clarify social media suppression of content as far as legality and fairness. In other words, the only ones in this scenario suppressing content are social media companies (arguably not covered by fairness in content or 1st amendment rules).

Basically this appears to touch on whether they (social media) can legally only allow one side or the other's views presented -- which really depends on whether they start to look at social media as having monopolistic power on news etc. like a public utility of sorts.

Hmmm: Did not know that the USA controls the entire content of the World-Wide-Web.
Oh well...

From what I can find it seem to be setting up sites to possibly be liable for content.

The language being used is why I don't believe this.

It says which ever party is in power.

Checks and balances mean that nether party ever truly has all the power.

It doesn't say congress or potus or a majority.

Reads like fear porn to me. I call fake.

Doesn't the party in power have some control of government agencies? I think that is the point there.

As usual, leaked draft isn't shown to the people.

I don't doubt Trump would like to do something to tech companies but this may not be the way to do it.

A third party site, leans a "bit" left, but tries to stay central, is literally jumping the Gun on this story.

Politico first broke the story,
www.politico.com...

Some excerpts:

The White House is circulating drafts of a proposed executive order that would address allegations of anti-conservative bias by social media companies, according to a White House official and two other people familiar with the matter

We know the WH has been working on this issue for some time.

None of the three would describe the contents of the order, which one person cautioned has already taken many different forms and remains in flux.

No one, not Politico OR CNN know what is in these EO and CNN is simply speculating.

“If the internet is going to be presented as this egalitarian platform and most of Twitter is liberal cesspools of venom, then at least the president wants some fairness in the system,” the White House official said. “But look, we also think that social media plays a vital role. They have a vital role and an increasing responsibility to the culture that has helped make them so profitable and so prominent."

That's pretty much the whole article.

Afterwards, "Common Dreams", the OPs source than later decided to not use the source article, Politico, rather, use CNN who speculated on its potential uses, stating:

"the order would reflect a significant escalation by President Trump in his frequent attacks against social media companies over an alleged but unproven systemic bias against conservatives by technology platforms. And it could lead to a significant reinterpretation of a law that, its authors have insisted, was meant to give tech companies broad freedom to handle content as they see fit."

As we all know and are familiar with the language of speculation that CNN is, resulting most likely from employing activist instead of Journalist, we should take any and all things from CNN with a Grain of salt.

All in all, what we do know is that Trump is making good on his promise to tackle big tech and their censoring of Conservatives, because IT IS HAPPENING.

Recent censorship, Mitch McConnels twitter was suspended....for showing violent and dangerous protestors at his home.

Anyways, lame attempt by the OP for not vetting the information, which was taking away from two sources, which never alluded to what "Common Dreams" printed out. They're like TruePundit almost.

Isn't this exactly what conservatives have been constantly calling for lately?

You know... always bitching about how far right rhetoric is being censored by private social media sites and demanding the 'government' steps in and does something about it?

Like they say... Careful what you wish for, cause you just might get it.

Nevermind the fact that the OP had to be amended because of so little info, I find it ironic that you're telling me to read all the links and make my own guess, when I literally just broke down your whole OP and said,

"Politico broke story first, CNN is putting spin on it, We don't know whats up, take with grain of salt."

Anything else gravel?

Edit01: bad day so don't take it personal RoadG.

I do not believe it either, but if it happened/s you know everybody on this site will welcome it, justify it and blame the Democrats for it....

But yes, this site will justify anything dear leader says or does.
