The editor of freed hostage Giuliana Sgrena's newspaper Il Manifesto, Gabriele Polo, said the intelligence agent was killed when he threw himself over Sgrena to protect her from U.S. fire, according to the Apcom news agency in Italy.

Supreme act of selflessness on the part of the intelligence officer. He absorbed the bullets so that she could live. Full story here.

After the demonstration of 500,000 people in Italy, following her videos accusing the US of destroying Iraq, Sgrena alive was the last thing that NATO wanted.

I read your link, but I see know connection to NATO.
Can you explain a bit more on why you say NATO failed to murder Sgrena please, from what I understand it was American & coalition forces that shot her?

You are totally on point with this. Good job getting it out in the open. Of course that's the first thing I questioned when this came out. And I agree with you. It was an assassination attempt and they screwed up because there was a great man in that car with her. Of course the Italians want to get her out of there as fast as possible. The US is trying to kill her.

They said that they were fired upon because they didn't wait for clearances and a bunch of permits, that they wanted to evacuate her ASAP...know why? Now you do.

From the supplied link:

The U.S. military said "at approximately 8:55 p.m. tonight, coalition forces assigned to the multinational force Iraq fired on a vehicle that was approaching a coalition checkpoint in Baghdad at a high rate of speed."

So the soldiers were supposed to know this wasn't a suicide bomber? Why the hell didn't she just get out of the car and walk towards the soldiers? The sight of a caucasian woman would certainly cause them to hold their fire.

Assassination attempt my butt.

You're telling me that the army that took over a nation in 2 weeks doesn't have the intel or the communications equipment that would let the soldiers on the ground know the italian journalist was being escorted to the airport...that's the road she got shot at on, the airport road...assassination attempt for sure

unless you are saying the american military is ill-equiped and stupid.
