"Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither."

"He who would trade liberty for some temporary security, deserves neither liberty nor security."

"He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither."

"People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both."

Blah, blahblah, blah blah.

Why do so many now endorse a loss of freedoms?

Another internet analogy was this;

A herd of sheep saw a wolf eat one of their bretheren.

They saw the wolf use it's teeth to tear and rend the flesh of their flock member.

They saw teeth as a danger.

So the sheep removed all their teeth to be safer.

Dumb sheep.

Why do we (as a culture) support and endorse people who want to remove our freedoms?

Yes, something tragic happened. It happened twice in a day! Guess what!

It'll happen again.

It's bcause we live in a society that embraces freedom, good/bad/indifferent.

Most people appreciate the freedoms we have, the freedoms and not to infringe on the freedoms of others.

Some bad people do not.

But we don't want to infringe on the rights of everyone else because a few bad people did bad things, do we?

We are we even entertaining this?

Why would we give up freedoms?

Because guns don't even equal freedom.

They are really good at injury and death.

When you point a gun at someone and pull the trigger, there is no increase of freedom. One person is dead or injured and the other will likely be incarcerated.

Similarly, there is little difference between someone using a gun to take away your freedom, as there is to someone using a gun to somehow 'give you freedom' (however you may perceive that may happen).

The bad guys have guns, too. In fact, it is more likely that the bad guys will use a gun against you, than that you will use a gun against them. Before you even know that you are in danger, they will probably have their gun up and ready.

That is because they are bad guys - with guns!

They're gonna release your soul.

No. It’s quite accurate in that it illustrates the illogic behind the anti freedom movement.

Ultimately I don't think "we" the people will have a choice in some of these issues.

Eventually a compelling and convincing enough argument will be made that stricter regulations on assault type weapons, and potential high capacity semiautomatic firearms along with more extensive background checks etc. that these steps will help prevent future mass shootings and legislation will be passed.

I'm not convinced that these steps will help prevent mass killings but ultimately they don't have to convince me. I'm not totally against it yet either, again it really doesn't matter what I think.

I'm not a gun enthusiast, or owner.

The representative government will act on it sooner or later. I think it's inevitable now.

I note that no one has even though small children continue to swallow rocks and choke quite frequently. Why do you think no one cares enough to make small rock swallowing illegal even though it could save just one child?

Could it be because small rocks aren't scary like guns?
