What is the biggest change that has occurred over the last 30 years, at least for the USA?

Closing the insane asylums?

Prescription drugs?

911?

What change are you thinking of?

You could demand that your president stops posting hateful and inflammatory tweets to begin with.
Whether you like it or not, Trump tweets some bat# crazy stuff from time to time.
It's time you guys acknowledge that before this crap gets out of hand

Truth is now "hateful and inflammatory"?

I am in the wrong timeline.

The two party system is like two unfit parents in a custody battle. Both sides spend most of their time trying to make the other side look bad while ignore their major flaws.

The children suffer the most as a result.(in this analogy we, the American people are the children).

Good luck on getting any right wing member to be critical of Donald Trump. Not going to happen.

The cruelty and division is the whole point.

To be honest, the left’s overuse of the words racist/racism have removed the meanings of the words for most folks. They used to be concerning, but When you call everyone a racist, no one is a racist.

Democrats will be playing these games for another year until their primary, then an additional four months until the POTUS election. My prediction is that every day between now and that POTUS election, the words racist/racism will be uttered, more than once, on every US news channel.

It is dangerous to disengage. If you don’t like what your party represents, tell them! If they continue to live in their left/right bubbles, NOTHING will ever change - things will continue to worsen.

I went to school when they taught government/civic responsibility (and civilized debate). I vote every election. I’m just looking forward to when I can vote FOR someone instead of against someone or socialist ideology.

Ya I get ya man. I have taken a step back from it here on ATS as of late. Only a handful of members will actually properly debate or have a conversation about topics here without name calling. Unfortunately on those threads when you engage you then have others interjecting in ways that I almost feel the need to defend my view. And it can be overwhelming.

Man, I don't know. I wish I did. I have some suspicions that it is probably multiple factors that are producing the perfect storm.

I am leaning towards the impact technology is having on human society. It is taking the greed that we have never really conquered and turning it into something much more sinister.

Maybe zazz has some good points on their comments in this thread:

Holy shart, that is genius. Where did you pick that up from? Is it a movement that is starting?

That would be awesome. No parties for the candidates. Each only runs on their own ideology, fully published on a website kept by an independent party. This party would be responsible to list the candidates ideology and then very carefully list the actions taken. Maybe have some type of score where their actions would be compared to their mouth.

I have been distressed over the rhetoric of hate coming from both sides of the aisle for a long time.

It seems that some people say that the most important thing we should first judge people on is skin color.

Then, based on their skin color we are to decide what we can and can not say to them so we don't accidentally offend them.

Then, based on their skin color we are to decide what we can and can not do around them so we don't accidentally offend them.

This greatly angers me.

I agree with MLK that the first and most important thing we should judge people on is the content of their character. How they treat people, how they speak to people.

Politicians these days fail on all counts when it comes to how I think we should judge people.

I watched the Dem debates and saw anger, hostility, and rudeness. So both sides fail miserably on how they speak to people and treat people.

They set the tone and example for our country. The tone of politicians these days appears to be hate, anger, hostility, suspicion and rudeness. I'm not just talking Trump, this was evident in the 2020 Dem debates.

I choose to first judge people as MLK says. I choose to approach a new person I meet as a potential friend and neighbor.

I think it is divisive and hateful to have to walk on eggshells around people who are not of your own skin color. This "sensitivity" comes off as aloof, uncomfortable, and often rude. It encourages people to avoid people not of their own skin color out of fear, fear of offending others. This is really awful and divisive.

To decide how to feel about others based on the level of melanin in their skin is like judging others based on the size of their teeth. It is like saying if you have big teeth you are overpriviledged in society and get everything you want out of life. If you have short teeth you should be put in a protected class and treated as if you can't care for yourself. It is that ridiculous to judge others or to say you must treat people based on something as arbitrary as melanin level.

This type of ugly hate filled rhetoric, that is so popular with politicians, is not only ridiculous, it has become in my eyes, downright evil, hateful and I am convinced, encourages senseless violence.

I wonder if it could be something simple, something in how we are raising our next generation of humans. Maybe it is the slow lock step march away from reality. Telling our kids they can be anything they wish to be. Telling them they can all be wealthy if they so choose. Handing out participation trophies to make everyone feel like a winner. To coddle any whims and petty emotions so the developing human never learns about life.

But I guess we never really did that in the past or did we? Did we have the attitude that children weren't special and honestly looked at their attributes whether good or bad? Maybe acknowledge that pain and suffering are perfectly acceptable/unavoidable when learning about this reality. That the individual isn't special, they are only what they make themselves to be through direct effort. Maybe disappointment is a vital element in the development of personality and character. Something completely different than what we are doing today.

Maybe what the experts are telling us about child development is completely wrong. Maybe we are finally witnessing what happens when everyone told they are special and the world should accommodate itself to them, always.

I have seen some of the newer/younger coworkers react to simple criticism and it is highly entertaining, simply because I am not responsible for them or in any type of management position. If I was responsible, I would probably be drinking those brain cells away each and every night after work.

I think another main issue is simple biology and how crazy interaction is becoming between the sexes. We are becoming more and more material and less spiritual every single day.

Enough is enough?

I've taken a break from politics, mainly because it was getting too ugly, even for me, weeks ago. It wasn't fun or funny anymore. Politicians, leaders and media are manipulating people along party lines, and using race, antisemitism, immigration etc to try to motivate people to get involved and vote, they're creating an environment of hatred in the process. All negative politics, it's always about how bad the other side is, rarely about what good they can or could do for this country and its people. They want to gain power, or keep power by any means necessary, and there is no low too low.

Whether you are on the left or right, race shouldn't be relevant. We can agree to disagree on virtually everything without resorting to personal attacks, racism or allegations of racism, insults, name calling etc.

This insanity is tearing this country apart, people shouldn't feel motivated to get involved in the political process based on fear, anger, hatred or racism in this country. But ask around, people are angry, and while they might not acknowledge it, they're angry, have hatred and maybe racism in their hearts and minds when discussing politics.

Politicians, leaders and the media, especially right and left wing opinion based media have got to tone it down, focus on the policies and issues of importance to ALL Americans without all of the contempt, hatred and use of "racism" in their public opinions.

Not that what I have to say matters here or anywhere. But the path this country is on politically, dirty politics, politics of personal destruction, hatred, racism and irrational fear cannot end well if it continues.

This is not about the recent shootings, although those are examples of how these tragedies are exploited politically in these times.

I can't support anyone in politics anymore without running into a moment where I face palm, and say "oh my god"

I'm too old, tired and in too much pain to care anymore. I am concerned for future generations.

It's a shame.

I wonder what the conduit of this is?

Imagine someone of either political stripe not listening to ANY media, other than that which is going on in their local area?

I wonder what they would, 1.) NOTICE 2.) NOT NOTICE?

But do you think media will ever be rolled back at this point? With regret, I think it is here to stay.

Maybe we need to find a way to coexist with technology and social media. How are all of us able to use it and remain sane?

We could even return to a self sustainable small farming communities that locally produce most of what we need. The melding of that type of lifestyle with the entertainment value of media to me would be the perfect mix. You would still need to develop social skills within the tight confines of a self sustaining community, but have the world at your fingertips.

Man, I enjoy technology. The greed with which it has allowed humans to pursue not so much.

The shooter wrote a manifesto that is filled with white nationalist ideas and racist hatred aimed at immigrants and Latinos. Pretty much what you can read on ATS on a daily basis from members who are way older than the shooter. So it is our fault.
The political climate in USA has been toxic ever since the twitter in chief became president.
Now we have these right wing nationalists, like the shooter, who believe that USA is under invasion taking the matter in their own hands.
And if anyone has pushed hard with all the invasion narrative it is the idiot that runs the country.

Man, I like to rag on our appointed leader just as much as the next guy, but I think you are stretching...really stretching.

In blaming a particular side while ignoring the other will do nothing to solve this issue.

We need to come up with a code of standards. A code that is honest and PC/SJW free. A code that gives a framework of nobility and honor, a way to live peacefully within this reality. A code that allows us to appreciate each other. A code that allows someone to enjoy this reality singing kumbaya but at the same time, accept this world is a very dangerous and hazardous place. A code that will allow someone to honestly view this reality while the same time, still love their existance here.

I hate feel good measures as I think they are part of the reason we are in this situation. But I think we need those ideologies to remain human, just not as we are implementing them today.

We need to find a code of segregation that is blind to anything except for actions. Actions on how you treat your fellow man and how you treat yourself. Actions that define a person instead of definition by words. Maybe we need to realize we can reject people who are corrupt and sick of the soul.

We can blame both sides the day we have a political left leaning person shooting up white people in a mall to prevent America from becoming white.
Until then there really is only one side to this, everything else is just beating around the bush.
