Enough is enough?

I've taken a break from politics, mainly because it was getting too ugly, even for me, weeks ago. It wasn't fun or funny anymore. Politicians, leaders and media are manipulating people along party lines, and using race, antisemitism, immigration etc to try to motivate people to get involved and vote, they're creating an environment of hatred in the process. All negative politics, it's always about how bad the other side is, rarely about what good they can or could do for this country and its people. They want to gain power, or keep power by any means necessary, and there is no low too low.

Whether you are on the left or right, race shouldn't be relevant. We can agree to disagree on virtually everything without resorting to personal attacks, racism or allegations of racism, insults, name calling etc.

This insanity is tearing this country apart, people shouldn't feel motivated to get involved in the political process based on fear, anger, hatred or racism in this country. But ask around, people are angry, and while they might not acknowledge it, they're angry, have hatred and maybe racism in their hearts and minds when discussing politics.

Politicians, leaders and the media, especially right and left wing opinion based media have got to tone it down, focus on the policies and issues of importance to ALL Americans without all of the contempt, hatred and use of "racism" in their public opinions.

Not that what I have to say matters here or anywhere. But the path this country is on politically, dirty politics, politics of personal destruction, hatred, racism and irrational fear cannot end well if it continues.

This is not about the recent shootings, although those are examples of how these tragedies are exploited politically in these times.

I can't support anyone in politics anymore without running into a moment where I face palm, and say "oh my god"

I'm too old, tired and in too much pain to care anymore. I am concerned for future generations.

It's a shame.

Talk to the Democrats.
8 years under Obama was nothing but running Conservatives in the ground, a piss poor economy, businesses taxed out of existence and Clinton planned to continue it and thought half of America were" deplorable " and now Biden calling us " dregs".
Socialist programs meant to undermine the economy and the promises of " free" everything.
The Dems have shown their hand and we're tired of this sh**.

Don't start nothin, there won't be nothin.

I think it's a wise decision to take a step back from politricks.
It got a bit out of hand, and the rhetoric has become ridiculously desperate.

No Clue

I seriously blame the so called resistence and the international cabal of globalists.

A genuine conspiracy to dismantle our government, through a dialectic, purveyed daily by an internationly owned media.

Feudalism 2.0 through the auspices of an unelected UN

This is a tough one for me. As I see it, the racism is coming specifically from the left party. Sure some racism comes from the right but its usually an individual, not the whole party. If you could elaborate on some racism coming from the right, it would help me.

Who would have thought the US president would be trolling people on twitter. Politicians can't get any work done because they are busy calling each other names and refusing to work together.

businesses taxed out of existence

Yeah, Amazon, MS. Apple, Berkshire Hathaway, Alphabet, energy companies are in such bad shape.

yup!

I agree, I have kind of been trying to take a bit of a step back over politics recently not just on ATS but in general and this is why its just too ugly. I feel like we have forgotten that its okay for someone to have a different opinion, that a fact is a fact where as a opinion is a opinion, I get fed up of the right claiming that everyone is calling them a racist and the left pretending to be holler than thou. I get bored of the same stupid arguments which turn into a pissing contest of who can troll who the hardest.

I really enjoy good reasoned and respectful political debate, I love getting into the issues, exploring and challenging opposing views but when you can't even open a political discussion without cries of "TDS" or "Trumptard" its impossible and just down right frustrating. Same with Brexit something I am genuinely very invested in right now but you're either a traitor for wanting a second referendum or you're an idiot for thinking no-deal is a good idea.

meh its just not a very nice environment right now with the polarisation of political opinion to get a really good debate on the go.

You could demand that your president stops posting hateful and inflammatory tweets to begin with.
Whether you like it or not, Trump tweets some bat# crazy stuff from time to time.
It's time you guys acknowledge that before this crap gets out of hand

You are part of the problem. Whenever a Muslim commits terror, you guys blame it on the religion.
But when a right wing racists shoots up people and on top of that writes a manifesto than its just a madmans work.
Effin hypocrites.
San Diego shooter was a right wing fanatic, yet here you are talking about left.

I've seen enough of it on both sides thanks.

I'm not playing that game anymore.

Bs. When did a left wing nutter motivated by some fringe ideas shoot up civilians in a mall?
It might happen in the future, but right now it damn sure isn't both sides doing the killings

You are way off topic and wrong. A leftist shot up a baseball field full of conservative congressmen, another one just firebombed and shot up an ICE station.

The OP is simply expressing distress over extreme politics it seems, I agree and you seem to be perpetuating the ill some of us feel.

Im disengaging now too

IMHO, most of the racism in which the media and politicians speak of is often manufactured or over inflated. For example, I live out in the sticks, a mostly white, mostly conservative, Christian demographic. Im a foreman in a factory which employs a lot of these people. If you listen to the media and politicians were all a bunch of racist rednecks. Yes there are a few blatantly racist people, but the majority of us are very accepting and treat everyone as an equal until proven otherwise. The term racist has all but lost its meaning, disagreeing with someone politically is not a form of racism. But the low down dirty truth is that without racism the majority of politicians would have nothing to speak about or against, they need racism to exist in order to thrive. I can only speak to my personal experiences, but I have never seen a person of color treated any differently than any other person in my company. And as a boss I treat all my employees equally, if you can't meet the mark and do your job, black or white, I will get rid of you. I've heard tell of companies keeping minority workers for the simple fact that they are minority, as to not cause a fuss or start rumors of racism. I find that rediculous. Apologies for the rambling.

I guess you dont see the irony of this statement.

You cry victim when "the left" groups you in with the bigots and such. You demand to be seen as an individual but in the same breath you did literally the exact same thing.

Op:
Most people are worthless tools unable to think for themselves. The media knows it. Appealing to people's fears is nothing new.

We have had the tools of destruction available to us for a while now. Why the recent discord? Why the mass killings? Why the PC/SJW movements? Why so much anger and strife?

What is the biggest change that has occurred over the last 30 years, at least for the USA?

Whether a hateful racist psychopath goes on a killing spree is a leftist democrat or conservative republican doesn't change anything. It's like blaming over a billion Muslims when radical Muslims attack.

So, if a killer is a left-wing democrat, we can blame all left-wing democrats when they kill?

Blame the president?

Stoking racism, hatred and irrational fears is happening on both sides in this country. These tragedies are being exploited politically whenever and wherever possible by both sides.

I'm done, I made my points in the opening post. Thanks for contributing.

Perhaps a black president being elected. If ATS is representative of the culture at large; hateful attitudes are slow to change.

If you had enough, then I think you're on the wrong forum.

It's the bread and butter of ats.

Don't be surprised if this thread becomes your op in a few pages.. well the first response you got should teach you something. Wink wink
