My favorite conception of the smart gun was that envisioned by Science Fiction author A.E.Van Vogt, who pictured a weapons technology which could only be used for defense against an aggressor.

You know any capable machinist can manufacture a gun?

Or nowadays you can just print weapon parts with a 3D printer.

The genie is out of the bottle.

Yeah, the whole "pre-crime" notion is scary.

But that brings up a different, valid argument in our society: for instance, domestic violence.

So it's not all so simple.

There are well over 20,000 Federal and state gun control laws... How many more do you want?...

You can call yourself a conservative all you want, but the truth is you are ignoring the history of the U.S. and gun control. The second Amendment was written because the British already tried to implement gun control in the U.S. before our independence.

Gun control exists in Mexico, the regular people in Venezuela are disarmed, except Chavistas and government forces loyal to Maduro... Yet gun crimes are worse in these places and people like you want to ignore this.

As for your "predictive policing" that's even more draconian, as anyone who would dare criticize government policies like it happened under Obama are and will be branded as possible terrorists.

"Predictive policing and gun control" are the weapons of choice of authoritarian regimes. Even Hitler used gun registration to disarm political opponents and minorities, and what happened to them? They were sent to concentration camps or mental institutions...

Pre crime scary for
sure... what happened to innocent till proven guilty. In Minority Report, they used precognition plus that interesting computer interface which actually has a prototype plus biometrics plus other rfid type tracking....

Trump supporter from day one here: I am guessing that Trump will propose some changes in the gun laws in his speech tomorrow night. I know it is libs dream to get rid of all guns completely....not going to happen.

Ideas which may be considered: National Concealed Carry - One permit, conceal carry allowed in all 50 states. Anyone who has ever gone thru the process knows it involves a lot of paperwork, FBI fingerprints checks, knowledge and skill tests, etc.

Although I am NOT in favor of outright banning the sale of AK47's , there is one possible idea that might be floated which is raising the minimum age to buy same to age 30. If you look back in history, almost all the mass shooters were in their
twenties, and legally bought their guns. Not that someone over 30 couldn't be a mental defect case, but maybe there will be fewer of them.

Some new requirements on gun sales to individuals nationwide may be implemented. I believe, but have not verified this info yet, that Texas passed or is trying to pass a law that says if you sell a gun to an individual, outside of a federal firearms dealer transaction, you must record the buyer's name, and the gun's serial number and then report that sale to the Texas Department of Public Safety within 30 days.

A $1 cost may be added to each gun sold by dealers, regardless of type, and allocated specifically to individual state agencies where the gun is sold, that support mental health.

a reply to: neoholographic>>> They want more gun control, more control of free speech and the press( independent and individual news sources, not the MSM) and a larger more controlling government. Thy can't protect us and seem to be actively working against us yet they demand we are the ones who must be willing to give up our rights and freedoms for our own good. I call it BS. Don't play into their hands, God knows what they'll do to us if we do. We've been fortunate so far because they've been stupid and a little nuts in their attempts to control us so keep defying them. Let them scratch their red baboons asses and wonder why we refuse to give up our guns.

What? Why? Is there ANY connection between mental health and firearms?

Nope. Stupid idea and we should not stand for it.

Also why post that you're a Trump supporter? TOTALLY off topic. Let's leave the politics out of this discussion, OK?

The PC crowd has effectively neutered America. We don't have a gun control problem. We have a sheep problem. One person with a gun and NOBODY did a thing except make cell phone videos and dial 911. Like the good sheep they are.

I mean, the Christchurch shooter had half the congregation rush him and he gunned them down like he was leafblowing a yard so while its easy to be an armchair badass its an entirely different thing to willingly sacrifice yourself to catch bullets so that maybe someone's body behind you makes it to the bad guy and disarms him....

Smart gun technology so your wife can't use the gun in the bedroom when you're not home and an intruder breaks in. We've had numerous stories when an adolescent used a firearm owned by the parents to stave off an intruder. As to the bump stock ban, how many people has it saved? None, because it is not commonly used in shootings nor does it make shooting more effective (quite the opposite).

Looks like the gov is going after "mental conditions" but how will they "verify" something that might happen later ?

I know. A certified examination by 3 psychiatrists and medication identification !!! 😎

Trump did a midday Message-to-America speech today (8-5-19)

2 items (outrageous) he suggested is that:

Corporate Tech joined with Law Enforcement -Jointly develop a screening protocol to get a early warning or a head's-up that identifies potential mass shooters/terror makers (sounds like a Fascist idea to me)

To reinstate Mental Health policing & allows for the incarcerating of people that are locked into hate patterns, a kind of Thought Police which will evaluate persons-of-interest that post 'Manifestos', or spout hate speech in Social media platforms

Trump is sounding like the progressive left, more & more...but he's not stuck on the repeating call for More Gun Control to the point of No guns ~at all~ for the average citizen
