I think this is good news for the people of Puerto Rico as the governor has said he will step down after all. There are conflicting reports as to whether he has already fled the country in a private jet or he will formally resign on Aug. 2d.. There have been big protest asking for his resignation and after saying many times he would not step down it looks like he is throwing in the political towel.

We needed to do so much more to embrace our little republic when the disaster struck. We let the people down there suffer for a long time. The greed and dirty politics were always a problem for them, but that hurricane was the proverbial straw.

Yep the stories of food and supplies rotting in someplace in Puerto Rico and not being delivered to the people woke up several IMO. The idiots who did that should be exposed and either stoned or hanged.

Has the public protested and forced out a governor in the United States before?

Yep but it was a long time ago after WW2. They even made a movie about it but I do not remember the name. Corrupt governor and police department met their match with some WW2 vets who kicked their butts.

The protest in Puerto Rico have been large and serious. youtu.be...

Strange how the protests got the job done in Puerto Rico, but Maduro continues to hang on in Venezuela. Maybe the protestors gave up there....just like they did in Iran. The protests in those locations were huge too.

Not strange at all.

If you are willing to torture and kill your political opponents, and their families, like Maduro, you can defeat a protest.

Well, I wonder how much of the countries money he weaseled out before he left office. He would never have gotten away with half the stuff he did if he was the governor of a State, Although, governors do seem to set up their future employment often by pushing through changes before they leave that feeds their future employers or lines their future pocketbooks.

The Democrats here tried to force our last Republican governor out because of the Flint Water problems. The governor took the word of the professional state people paid to oversee the water in the state and he ignored the people directly because the experts said there was no problem. But, as normal, those experts were wrong and it caused problems. So the Liberals made a stink of it and tried to get rid of our governor. Just because you put your trust in experts shouldn't make a person liable if something goes wrong. You cannot take the complaint of every citizen in the country and investigate. Our water in the local towns tastes like a swimming pool, many towns have that problem, city water sucks.
