There are all sorts of nun with all sorts of different callings.
Some teach, some nurse, some are in cloisters, and so on.
The story of THIS nun and her work seems to have been
swept under the rug. I thought I'd post it here to share
with you all.

The Life and Brutal Death of Sister Dorothy, a Rainforest Martyr
On the Lawless Fringe of Brazil's Amazon Jungle - Where Illegal
Loggers Have Devastated the Rainforest - the American Nun
Dorothy Stang Defended the Poor,Then the Gunmen Came for Her

Sister Dorothy Stang lived among those who wanted her dead. When they
finally came for her she read passages from the Bible to her killers. They
listened for a moment, then fired. Her body was found face down in the
mud, blood staining the back of her white blouse.

The town of Anapu, on the edge of the Amazon rainforest, is most notable
for the dust that clogs its streets and for the number of shops selling
chain-saws. It is also the place that Sister Dorothy called home for more
than 30 years and where she organised her efforts to try to protect the
rainforest and its people from disastrous and often illegal exploitation by
logging firms and ranchers. Now Anapu will be known as the place where
Sister Dorothy is buried.

People walk 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) on the transamazonic highway
carrying the coffin containing the body of American missionary Dorothy
Stang from the airport to the Santas Missoes Church (Holy Missions
Church) where Stang's wake took place in Anapu, northern Brazil, Monday,
Feb. 14, 2005. Stang was gunned down Saturday Feb. 12, 2005, at the
Boa Esperanca settlement where she worked with some 400 poor families
near Anapu, a rural town about 1,300 miles (2,100 kilometers) north of Rio
de Janeiro.

The 74-year-old activist was laid to rest yesterday morning after being
assassinated by two gunmen on Saturday at a remote encampment in the
jungle about 30 miles from the town. Sister Dorothy - the most prominent
activist to be murdered in the Amazon since Chico Mendez in 1988 - was
shot six times in the head, throat and body at close range. "She was on a
list of people marked for death. And little by little they're ticking those
names off the list," said Nilde Sousa, an official with a local women's group
who worked with the nun.

As with the death of Mr Mendez, a rubber tapper, the murder of Sister
Dorothy has triggered waves of outrage among environmental and human
rights activists who say she dedicated her life to helping the area's poor,
landless peasants and confronting the businesses that see the rainforest
only as a resource to be plundered and which have already destroyed 20
per cent of its 1.6 million square miles.

Don't forget that Jesus is a socialist!!!!

In your capitalist eyes a left wing extremist.

At least under capitalism I get rewarded for hard work. Under socialism I get punished and taxed to death to reward someone who sits on their butt & whines that they can't live well enough on welfare.

About welfare. I guess that America is doing great, crippled soldiers are sitting the whole day on their bum and complain that they can’t life on benefits.

See your health and ability to afford enough money as a gift. Maybe God is testing you to see how you deal with your wealth. Don’t be boasting to much with a gift from Him. You probably worked your backside off for it but lots of other people do and gain nothing. If you are against sharing your wealth here on earth why should God share His, much more valuable, things with you in the hereafter. Jesus could not said it more plainly: “it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into God's kingdom.” This says enough of the average behaviour of capitalists.

And NO as you already stated, the world is definitely not happy with people who share their socialist thoughts. That poor nun found it out, thousands before her and even Jesus was nailed on the cross for holding a mirror and pointing people at their selfish acts.

Lazarus and the Rich Man
There was once a rich man who wore expensive clothes and every day ate the best food. But a poor beggar named Lazarus was brought to the gate of the rich man's house. He was happy just to eat the scraps that fell from the rich man's table. His body was covered with sores, and dogs kept coming up to lick them. The poor man died, and angels took him to the place of honor next to Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried. He went to hell and was suffering terribly. When he looked up and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side, he said to Abraham, “Have pity on me! Send Lazarus to dip his finger in water and touch my tongue. I'm suffering terribly in this fire.” Abraham answered, “My friend, remember that while you lived, you had everything good, and Lazarus had everything bad. Now he is happy, and you are in pain. And besides, there is a deep ditch between us, and no one from either side can cross over.” But the rich man said, “Abraham, then please send Lazarus to my father's home. Let him warn my five brothers, so they won't come to this horrible place.” Abraham answered, “Your brothers can read what Moses and the prophets They should pay attention to that.” Then the rich man said, “No, that's not enough! If only someone from the dead would go to them, they would listen and turn to God.” So Abraham said, “If they won't pay attention to Moses and the prophets, they won't listen even to someone who comes back from the dead.”
Luke 16

Christ is social. Anti-Socialism = Capitalism = Anti-Christ.
Trying to pay your guilt of with donating 10% of your income to the church will not help you. Its your hart that counts.

Where are you living for?

'Give to Ceaser what is Ceaser's, give to God what is God's.'
- That's a Christ quote. He used money when he had to.
Remember when he told Peter to go fishing and that there
was money inside the fish for Him and Peter to pay the
temple taxes?

None of us have the benefit of making money appear out
of thin air ... or thin fish.
Being a capitalist isn't
Anti-Christ. It's called earning a living so that you can
eat, put clothes on your back, a roof over your head,
and so on. What is being anti-Christ is going against
the teachings of Christ. Since Christ used money, then
having $$$ isn't anti-Christ.

However. I get your point.

*sigh* I just wanted to bring this wonderful woman's story
to the forefront to show everyone. What a wonderful soul.
What a sad end. I thought we could rejoice in her life and
sorrow in her death together ...

but of course this had to turn into an anti-America or anti-whatever
thread.
So ... nevermind.

While it's sad I think we should remember that this doesnt really only reflect a anti-christain stance, but instead seems to show the pro-industry, anti-ecological capitalists where threatened by her and that that is the reason for her death.

We shouldnt begin to assume religious reasons for every incursion that ends in the death of a religious figure, this is why most of the world is fighting now because they only think of the religious angle, when in fact like other environmentalists that have been executed for big money,

Very well said I was thinking of adding something to that effect but since you got to it first , thank you for mentioning that and I agree.

Earning your money for your living is definitely not a sin. Jesus was a carpenter before He started His bigger job. Do you really think He made every table, bed or chair for free?

It’s more the way capitalism works. People put earning money, materials and their own status before themselves, their family, friends and even God. Lots of them are even willing to hurt another human being for getting more. That’s what I call capitalism.

A big selfish anti-Christ monster we have to deal with. I honestly feel sorry for the people who are worshipping this beast.

As someone who doesnt believe in god and someone on the "evil" left I do say this....this is a horrible event and it shows people are still commiting evil against a messanger of god who had done no wrong to them....why does this seem familiar?
