That's nothing. 10%.
It also doesn't matter because everyone on social service bonuses [USA or UK or where ever] still pay for their goods.
I don't understand the American food stamps, but surely they are only allowed certain things. The rest of these people's money will still go in the big pot.
Here in the UK we get bonuses for being either disabled or unable to work or when looking for work.
All the money that is given to people will still go into the 'big pot'. There is V.A.T on stuff, they hand over cash and it all goes to the same place.
As a matter of fact, it is impossible to have everyone working. Impossible.

I can totally understand when people come form foreign countries, get a home and money for free and don't have to work.
On the other hand, it is impossible for everyone to have a job and the government knows that.

I used to work once and pay taxes, I used to be annoyed about those who got 'fee' money. Well now I am too ill to work and yes I get money, but I am also suffering from my illness.
I get annoyed when strangers who have not paid anything or not even worked get everything stuck up their anuses.
But Good old Brits that deserve it, still contribute to the overall intake of the country.

Same probably with Americans.

There is no way that everyone can have a job.

Sorry but the numbers don't really bear out what you are saying. Senior citizens are only 10% of who uses the entire programme:

Recent studies show that 44% of all SNAP participants are children (age 18 or younger), with almost two-thirds of SNAP children living in single-parent households. In total, 76% of SNAP benefits go towards households with children, 11.9% go to households with disabled persons, and 10% go to households with senior citizens.

www.snaptohealth.org...

It is largely people who shouldn't even have had children, who are abusing it, and not working either because they can't afford childcare or are baby mamas, or who just don't want to work.

You can tell a lot about the Snap! program by the fact that it is administered by the Department of Agriculture.

It was originally designed to prop up commodity prices (back when America produced more crops than it could sell). Remember the "government cheese" in the 1970s? That was available because the cheese market bottomed out, and the DA had warehouses of cheese product that they'd taken off the market in an attempt to help shore up prices.

The goal of the government offices is to get AS MANY PEOPLE on SNAP as possible. More customers means a bigger budget next year, and more bureaucrat jobs in the govt office. They quit "food stamps" a long time ago, and switched to the EBT card, which looks the same as a bank card.

Their goal is to get about 40% of persons to go on SNAP; they LOVE illegal aliens, and get them to the front of the line.

Snap still gives preference to illegals over citizens

The land of plenty.

Plenty of freebies for them. Plenty of taxes for you.

It's about what they are buying with the money and less to do with anything else. If they were heavily restricted with what they could buy almost nobody would take it.

I see these people weekly in the grocery stores and they are loaded down with cases of soda, potato chips, Twinkies and some even cigarettes. For things the card does not cover they pay cash. It's a truly ridiculous system. These people are not starving, the ones that I see anyway.

It's a combination of fraud, gluttony, sloth, and a bunch of other horrible human qualities wrapped up with a big beautiful bow so people think it's some great pious deed for society.

I'm not necessarily criticizing poor people. I'm saying the system is broken, and in many ways is keeping people poor.

Propping up prices isn't capitalism. It's socialism. laisez faire capitalism would be to let the market find its own bottom. Our government is definitely against THAT.

the problem is, its illegals, who have money for food, but they want 'extra' free cash.
i tell any of my friends who are down in the dumps, get on food stamps.
i knew a girl, who lets say, had issues. she was an american, living in nyc. she got 250 a month for food, cell phone, and subway fare, once she signed up for assistance.
she was working as a club promoter, under the table. she for sure was broke, but she could totally have worked, if she wanted to.

Ever since the first guy thought of making a food product for sale, people were on food assistance. If you don't hunt your own, grow your own or make your own, you rely on assistance.

I don't do any, but I can eat a friggen tree.

Maybe they should close tax loop holes....

You know the ones where if anybody were to say "trump pays no taxes"... you would all say say he is a genius for playing the system and using tax loop holes...

Yet when the poor play the system and exploit loop holes you are up in arms lol...

I am sure there are plenty of people that lie and scam the system...

But if it is legal for them to buy chips and soda, who the f are you to tell them not too? seriously?

I'm on SSI, I only get $750 a month for all of my expenses. I get food stamps and use them to buy food. I am very good at budgeting and don't buy frivolous things with the $120 in food stamps I get per month. I am going to college online, and am hoping to get off SSI eventually and make enough money to support myself if that is possible. I also tutor math online to get a bit of extra money, but it isn't much.

Yes, I might spend $15 on soda or other drinks per month using my food stamps. I feel like the government would be overstepping its boundaries to limit what I could purchase.

My neighbor is in the same situation as me, but she is an idiot when it comes to budgeting her money and food stamps. As a result, she ends up starving from the 20th of the month to the 7th of the next month. She literally stops eating because she runs out of food. The consequences of bad budgeting are real. Should the government intervene and tell her what to buy?

I don't think so, but there are actually some ways the government can intervene at the moment, anyway. She could get a caregiver who would help her learn to ration and budget effectively and go shopping with her. She already has a government payee that tries to help her budget by only giving her a little bit of her SSI per month. She has a case manager that needs to lay down the law on her because she is hurting herself.

And when you weigh 200+lbs and have diabetes someday and are crying over your health insurance ...

Seriously, pop is one of the worst things you can drink.

Try tea. You get the caffeine and it flavors the water for you with zero calories.

It was a scandal here in Missouri locally several years ago. The assistance workers all got fat bonuses for signing up so many new SNAP beneficiaries, and then it was discovered that many they signed up did not qualify. Not only were the workers not required to pay back their bonuses or reprimanded in any way, but the families who received assistance through their efforts who were suddenly judged ineligible, were billed for the total amount of assistance they received.

See this is a messed up way of thinking because you blame the people in need and not the people that made the system the way it is in the first place

So according to the majority on this thread

Poor people should not be able to?....

have babies at all!

Should not be able to have the pleasure of drinking carbonated beverages?...

or eating sugary sweets?..

I get so sick of hearing this BS about poor people on food stamps really? I mean don't you have anything better to bitch about?

You people are the worst kind of people not everyone on food stamps is drug addicts or abuse the system in any way!

Most of the time it's just family's with children trying to make it

Yes there is people that abuse the system in every aspect of life not just food stamps.

Just like not all black men are criminals right?

It's just crazy the way people think and feel about there fellow human beings and just don't care about anyone but there selfs

And why do people care so much about what other people do anyway ? Is your own life that boring?

Because I got news for all of you your damm tax dollars don't really go to what you think it dose any way

Quit acting like you're so much better then everyone else and acting like you don't have vices and luxuries.

S**t!!! the rich are the worst of all and think they are the only ones that deserve a damm twinkie every once in a while

I'm on disability and get food stamps.

The other day I went grocery shopping and 2 hours later storms rolled through causing the 2nd largest black out in my areas history. I lost $50 in food. I had no where to put it. I put it in a tub full of ice but ran out of money for ice. I went through 6 bags of ice. I'm royally screwed. I have $40 on my card to last two weeks. I'm probably gonna have to borrow money from someone. Which means I'm already cutting myself short on money next month.

Depending on the government sucks. They like to play politics with my lively hood. I'm one step away from being homeless. I probably am going to be homeless in a couple years. Everyone close to me is dying.
