Yes, because international waters are just that....international.

I would think it was foolish of them and a waste of their resources, but they have a right to send their vessels anywhere in international waters as long as they are not interfering with the free navigation of other vessels in those same waters.

It looks like Iran is doing just that. To play devils advocate what if Iran had ships just on the line of international waters off the coast of the USA. Would you be standing up for their rights in international waters

Honestly? LOL. If Iran thinks they can win that contest, I'd love to see them bring it, I would welcome it. It would solve the issue of Tehran potentially getting nukes quite quickly, as glassed ink spots don't tend to have the money or manpower for advanced weapons programs.

Was just listening to a news report that there might be a second British tanker that also "tacked North towards Iran" also at 4pm UK time today.

There's no word from this second tanker at this point (didn't catch it's name)

Will have a look for some info the second one

Neither side has an overwhelming naval combat force. The problem is Iran can strike at anything in the strait’s from shore bases. That’s going to make it difficult for the UK to project power.

Hey UK, are you going to let that stand? A rogue nation sending their naval assets into international waters to hijack your ships! Time to send the regime a message they can understand. Sink their small boat fleet, without them they can't harass civilian craft!

UK is a NATO ally, meaning that they're not just standing with their own national firepower supporting them. If Iran actually did attack a UK freighter, that's one thing... if Iran attacks (or counter attacks, truthfull) a UK military vessel, then Iran could easily find the United States' boot so far up their ass it would be tickling the Ayatollah's uvula.

Wasn't Iran satisfied with the 150 billion dollars we gave them 4 years ago?

The US and its allies should simply get rid of Iran's leadership by sending in strategically targeted drones.

I doubt it!

Cobra (Britain's emergency committee) is meeting right now formulating a response.

But just think, in a few days time UK will have a new PM, almost certainly Boris Johnson.

He doesn't exactly have a good record on being particularly tactful on foreign affairs...

UK is in a tight spot here...they better contact Obama & Kerry ASAP.

Hope they have billions to fly to Iran to appease them.

Iran has seized a second tanker, US official says
From CNN's Barbara Starr

Iran has also seized a second tanker, the Liberian-flagged MV Mesdar, according to a US official. Two more US officials tell CNN that, according to maritime intelligence reports, the indication is the Mesdar has been seized. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced earlier that its navy has captured a British-flagged tanker ‘Stena Impero’ in the Strait of Hormuz. The order of seizure of the two ships isn’t clear at this time.

Looks like things are getting even more "interesting"

Kerry probably "suggested" the attack.

Screw the drones. Cruise missle, and F35 time.

Given the location of the ship , proximity to Iran , and following Iran stating they would seize a British tanker could it be possible this un-escorted ship is a pawn.

Smells fishy to me.

Excellent point.

The best way to deal with this is a coordinated multinational overwhelming response.

The sticking point here is probably the fact that they now have in excess of 50 hostages, whose death would almost be assured by military action.

Cool. An added bonus at no extra charge.
