The general public does not employ the military. That is ludicrous. The US military is employed by the US government, which is voted in by the people. A politician can be seen as employed by the people, since the people gave them the job and can remove them from the job via the vote, but no one votes to hire a soldier and the voters cannot fire a soldier.

The general public does not own the property of the US government. Just try to build a cabin on park lands and you'll figure that one out pretty quick. Government property is held by the government which is voted in by the people, but that does not mean the people own the land.

If I own a share of Walmart stock, it does not follow that I own the local Walmart. It just means I have a say in who controls the local Walmart.

NO, that's NOT what it "basically means"! What it means is, there are places in every country which are off limits to its citizens. This, for reasons of national security and a variety of other reasons. Can you go to live in the house of your president or king? That property is owned by your state/country, but you're not allowed to freely go there anytime you wish. It is not open to the general public. Your country's military exists on state/country owned land, but you can't just walk into one of their bases and just check out what's going on for personal entertainment and fun.

Actually, Trump does control access to classified information, and he can snap his fingers and declassify whatever he wants. I would think he's got a lot better sense than to just go around doing so willy-nilly though... I for one am glad certain things are classified instead of being put out in public so we can all start up a new and improved arms race.

Crazily enough, the same people who want to see the fun things that kill inside Area 51 (and thereby start up a new arms race) are the ones who would otherwise lament the present arms race.
