Why wouldn't black ops work? Why can't the USA just send in assassins? Run small missions taking out strategic targets, peoples, etc. Just dont get caught doing it. (I know, easier said then done)

Everyone will know it was us, but our Gov can just do what they do best- deny it.

Seriously though- why does this have to be a "war" (Iran)? There has got to be another way to do this... thoughts?

My 2 cents:
The problem isn't the nukes themselves, the problem here is nukes+fanatic islamic ideology. These two together = worldwide disaster. Using covert ops doesn't solve the ideology issue - freedom does. These fanactical groups WILL use WMD against the "western world" if they get their hands on them, period. Some goverments simply are not stable enough to control weapons of this magnitude. They CANNOT be permitted to create them. If war is the only way to make sure of this - so be it. No one said life was fair.

not to mention the ecological implications of sinking tankers !!!!!

Actually Saddam did that is the GW-1 era. There was also a period when US warships escorted tanks thru the straight. Thats when the USS Shefield was his by and Iraqi fired FRENCH exorcet missile. The US "euro-safe" programing of anti-missile systems got a wake-up call.

Once the USA and other high oil consumption nations lose thier dependancy on oil, the ENTIRE MIDDLE east will become third world. The desert will open up and swallow them whole. They will depend on the rest of the world to sustain thier basic existance through charity as they export nothing other than oil. Nothing that would sustain themselves anyways.

I think OPEC and all oil producing nations that export to the west need to understand it is a double edged sword they are rattling. Fact: Oil WILL be replaced someday. We need it now, they will need our money later. OPEC needs to figure that out right now.

The only reason the masses arent using hybrid or fully electric cars is big business, not technology. Even now big business is starting to respond to the masses desire for more economic vehicles with cars like the Prius and so forth. Big business is starting to swing, soon it will snowball and the middle east will be finished.

My opinion? If I were an oil producing middle eastern nation I would bend over backwards to any nation willing to buy my goods, as the end for that demand is within our lifetimes.

I think the whole mindset over there is that all these oil hungry nations will never kick the oil habit. I think that is an error that will cause thier natons to starve to death. If the USA alone replaced just 50% of its oil consumtion with alternate energy, the middle east would suffer massive financial loss. Imagine Russia and China doing the same.

The middle east is doomed. I hope they realize it soon before the bombs start falling...

1. Iranian provokes incident with Naval military flexing. SAM fired on US recon airship. Iran then claims the straights.

2. ALL maritime traffic ceases. Condi Goes to UN

3. Gas goes to 6.00 a gallon. Ask one more time

4. Consumer goods double. Ask UN again.....

5. US effectively cripples Iranian Air defense in weeks, not months.

6. Long ass ground war, or nukes, your choice. We have to determine if this is regime change, or for the safety of the world for preventing nuclear capable Iran

Oh, and China and Russia cut a deal with the US to stop arms and engineering assistance to Iran for Taiwan
. Why not let us destroy what they were already paid for, right?

To me it would seem quite logical in Iran's position to attack oil supplies if it was faced with imminent US hostility, it is one of the many ways to halt a war machine that is heavily reliant on it, and we all know that during wartime the US uses heaps of oil.

Also, Its well known that the US military’s main strength is to get an operation completed in as little time as possible (Advanced Blitzkrieg++), but as we have seen in Iraq, it is not so good at long term protracted warfare. So how long could its Navy/Air Force intercept countless numbers of erratic attacks on oil Super-freighters?
Is anyone here a military analyst?

I’m guessing it would get very expensive, very quickly.

How many people have commented on these types of uneducated opinions?
Its common knowledge that the target country would not be the only one affected...

So what? in 91 iraq had the fourth largest army in the world and Bagdhad had the most heavily defended arspace in the world. Yet the US led coalition was still able to gain total control of the skies wthin 48 hours.

Yes, they did have a lot of anti-air batteries, however they were mostly obsolete seeing as they relied on massive fire-power to lay a 'carpet' of fire in the sky rather than target individual aircraft, and this was pointless because US aircraft fly well above the maximum height capabilities of the AA guns.

It reminds me of a story I heard on German night raids during the Blitz, where AA gunners in London pretty much just elevated their guns and fired without a hope in hell of hitting anything, but the public didn’t know this so they at least felt better thinking they were 'Getting some back' which helped keep up moral.

The situation right now is extremely fragile, and I have a feeling that Iran would see any attempted covert operations or espionage in its country as US based and probably declare it an act of war.

If the US attacks Iran I expect Venezuela to shut off its oil supplies to the US and divert them to China. 6 days from Venezuela to US gas stations.

Then China may decide to enact the double whammy and dump the dollar which could be catastrophic.

No one can hit the US with a military first strike but they can gang up and act economically which can be just as devastating.

the new map of middle east

Recoverable Crude Oil Futures (in billions of barrels)
0.1
0.1 to 1
1 to 10
10 to 20
20 to 100
>100

so this are the crude oil reserves in the middle east basin.
and this is the "map" that the united states goverment "uses".
the green zone the u.s. already has in their hands now, with the new iraqi govement installed, happy to give that oil to the u.s. saudi arabia is "a friend" of the united states for a long time, so much of the oil in the "green zone" is already owned by the u.s. now there is some of that oil in iranian territory. why not have it all under "your control"?

that is what this is all about.
american propaganda towards iran,
to "help us see" that this really is a dangerous country,
that wants to spread "terror" and attack middleast oil ports?
why is that exctly?
they have ALOT of oil!
but maybe headlines like this are troubling mister g.w.bush goverment:

Iran has revised its oil and condensate reserves up by 36 percent to 130.81 billion barrels
Iran to take control of world's oil trade in 2005
Most of Iran's oil reserves unexplored

now lets check some more world stats:

world oil reserves (millions of barrels as of January 1, 2002):
Saudi Arabia: 261,750
Iraq: 112,500
United Arab Emirates: 97,800
Kuwait: 96,500
Iran: 89,700
Venezuela: 77,685

world oil production (millions of barrels per day):
Saudi Arabia: 8.528
United States: 8.091
Russia: 7.014
Iran: 3.775

world oil consumption (millions of barrels per day):
United States: 19.993
Japan: 5.423
China: 4.85ermany: 2.814
Russia: 2.531
South Korea: 2.126
Brazil: 2.123
Canada: 2.048
France: 2.040
India: 2.011
Mexico: 1.932
Italy: 1.881
United Kingdom: 1.699
Spain: 1.465
SaudiArabia: 1.415
Iran: 1.109

can you see a pattern emerging?

its all about the money.
well in this case,
its all about the oil.

I heard on the local radio here in Tampa/St Pete that there is to be a major announcement in the next few days and we should expect a LARGE increase in the price of gas. Not sure what it means, but it was strange to read this thread, and then hear that on my break a few hours later.

Ok here some real weirdness. Not long ago the "largest" oil reserve on the planet was found deep under Israel. It is being developed. I say burn the Islamic oil fields.

Perhaps this is the real "hate" of israel by the mullahs. A loss of $$$ power to the Jews.........
