1960's: Military planned attacks in US to create support for Cuba war (from ATSNN)

Topic started on 4-3-2005 @ 04:43 AM by John Nada

Plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for war against Cuba were drawn up by top military officials during the 1960's it has been revealed. Plans included sinking boats of Cuban refugees on the high seas, hijacking planes, blowing up a U.S. ship, and even orchestrating violent terrorism in U.S. cities in an operation that was code named Operation Northwoods. These plans were drawn when the US wanted to oust Cuba's new communist lead Fidel Castro.

America's top military brass even contemplated causing U.S. military casualties, writing: "We could blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba," and, "casualty lists in U.S. newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation."

Details of the plans are described in Body of Secrets (Doubleday), a new book by investigative reporter James Bamford about the history of America's largest spy agency, the National Security Agency. However, the plans were not connected to the agency, he notes.

The plans had the written approval of all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and were presented to President Kennedy's defense secretary, Robert McNamara, in March 1962. But they apparently were rejected by the civilian leadership and have gone undisclosed for nearly 40 years.

This is a timely reminder that the government will do anything in it's power to get its own way, and even though the plans were never carried through it shows that the government does not represent or serve the people but in fact tries to rule.

The fact that this was even considered is enough to send shivers up many peoples spines as who knows how many plans like this were made that the public haven't been made aware of and in fact were followed through.

The fact that this wasn't followed through doesn't make it any less significant, it seems they have no problem killing their own people if it serves what they want, and this will no doubt bolster the efforts of those conspiracy theorists who believe the terror attacks of 9/11 were ochestrated by their own government.

Yup - Curtis Lemay wanted to nuke China, Russia, Cuba and North Korea - not necessarily in that order. We definitely have had some certifiable's as generals in the past among them members of the joint chiefs who came up with Northwoods as a solution for communist dominated Cuba which scared the bejesus out of them.

You're kidding, right? The Japanese attacked us because they saw a threat.

Prove that the U.S. govt attacked Pearl Harbor, oh wait, you can't.

That's not what anyone thinks about Pearl Harbor. Some believe that FDR goaded Japan into attacking us, and then ignored intelligence telling where the fleet is.

Both sides can put forth a convincing argument, so that incident is open for me.
