There is one thing I don't understand about Christianity!

Why do they use the cross as their symbol?

Wasn't Jesus tortured and killed on the cross?

How can anybody feel good displaying a torture tool?

Would you put a hangman's knot on your wall if jesus was hanged?
Or wear a guillotine around your neck if he would have been beheaded?

Sometime this really upsets me because there could be beauty in the teachings, but for whatever reason they choose a symbol representative for the darkest chapter of their story!

Psychologically very uplifting ideas

And what about the peace Symbol?
Who's genius idea was that?

Sincerely No Clue

Well, it is like KRS-ONE said "if jesus Christ was shot in the head with no respect we'd all be wearing little gold guns around our neck".

If I had a guess it's to remind people of the sacrifice Jesus made for our sins.
Whats a better symbol than the representation of his ultimate demise?

Christianity is pretty sketchy and morbid.
Not only the torture tools but also the cannibalism.

The worst thing about the cross for me though is it’s basically an idol, the commandments are pretty straight forward on idols

The cross is a pagan symbol that was stolen borrowed by Christians. Emperor Constantine started it all. The Scriptures also forbid all forms of idolatry and Jesus did not die on a cross, despite what many believe.

The Greek word generally translated “cross” is stau·rosʹ. It basically means “an upright pale or stake.”

What's the Peace Symbol supposed to be, Saint Peter hung upside down?
Or is it the Mercedes badge with an extra line?

I often wondered what happened to the simple fish symbol, but I guess the Romans quit using that as soon as Constantine took over the christian church and transformed the Roman Empire into the Vatican (eventually).
That would help explain the torture symbol, after all, the Church (Empire) has to retain control of you body & soul.

The peace symbol is an upside down cross with the ars broken down, it’s anti Christian

As for the cross, it what Jesus died on, what God died on, ultimate defeat, counter cultural, the opposite of victory
Jesus didn’t promise a victory till He returned, it a symbol of death.
The darkest chapter of the story is the truth, dying to show how important loving others is.

Life is not supposed to be as important as love
It’s not sposed to make sense

No the cross is not an idol it’s a symbol.
Idols are worshiped, crosses are just worn, I don’t know any christians who worship a cross, not saying some don’t, but

What cannibalise, seriously are you saying that bread becomes Jesus, that’s infantile

Really, prove Jesus didn’t die on a cross, Romans crucified thousands and thousands on a cross, why would it be different for Jesus
Maybe it wasn’t a cross but a stake but really, as if you really care, I don’t
Jesus died, that’s the message, cross, stake, who cares, why care

It’s an idol that Catholics regularly pray at the feet of, they also pray to Mary which I’m pretty sure is a no-no in gods book.

It’s symbolic cannibilism, that’s messed up and weird even if it is symbolic.
Christians consider it normal as they have always been around it but take a step back and look at it objectively

So many edgy anti-Christians who call themselves "atheists". Meanwhile, they won't say anything mean about Islam, and usually will do their best to defend it.

You're just on the Christian side of this,
Every religion has one moon God or another propped up as a deity...

Six of one, half a dozen of the other..

Catholicism explained:
Give the church your money, tell them all your deepest secrets, do exactly what they say, aannnndddd......
They'll take care of you in the next life.
In the mean time, the heads of the churc are doing the same things they are telling their parishioners not to.
And they lined up by the MILLIONS....

I don’t think Catholics worship the cross, best you take that up with them, not to my understanding at least

Jesus was called the Bread of life, also a door, Bridegroom, Messiah et al

You say It’s symbolic cannibalism really, really, symbolic and you are thinking its real cannibalism? Really?
Christians chew on bread and it’s called cannibalism in your head, really?
That’s exactly why Jesus did what He did, to show how shallow the religious people are. Drink His blood, wine (remember Jews didn’t eat blood, against the Mosaic covenant) Eat His flesh (again) But you think it’s real blood and real flesh? Really?

Jesus was counter cultural, against religion and petty beliefs like yours, Jesus did all He could to show that He didn’t respect religion but wanted love

You are a parody of logic and atheism
Jesus was probably more atheist in His theology than you

But they choose these specific ceremonies and symbols!

Why not choose something more uplifting, joyful?

Everybody who has made the slightest investigation into what magic is and how it works, even if it's just to know what your up against, will see that the basic ingredients are symbols, ceremonies, and people!

Do you guys even know what your actually doing when going to church?

No Clue

isn't it False Idols?

And his crucifixion was a choice he made, to allow our sins to be forgiven. He sacrificed himself on cross, for us.

And I'm a reformed xtian, find the entire lot a random mix of orders and threats with a few nice words thrown in, like peace be with you.

Not to mention the hymns.. "Suffer little children to come unto me, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.."

And people wonder why some (?) priests are freaks...
