Sadly you are wrong, as in the United States over 200 hundred thousand children have married much older individuals in just the last 15 years. Most states in 2017 updated their age of consent laws with the average being 16 and the age of marriage without parental consent being 18. Mississippi requires parental consent until age 21.Obviously the loop hole effect is essentially invalidating these laws even in our "modern enlightened" Society in the United States.

So there is no moral high ground in the enlightened United States when it comes to child marriage. Laughable when our politicians point to other Countries lack of protection for children and the criticisms of other countries Human/children's rights record when our own legal systems provide the seal of approval to the systemic violations of our own consent and marriage laws, which those same politicians craft as legally binding laws of the land, and then routinely violate legally when a irresponsible parent provides consent.
