Actually black is absence of color and white is the mixing of all colors. Now if you want to go with "subtractive" color/lighting, then it's the opposite.

Last time I checked Black Yellow White Red Orange Brown, are all colors.

These days, I thought it was anyone "not white" where white is based on the color of skin and/of what it's convenient to the narrative for you to be. After all, Zimmerman was white despite some decidedly un-European ancestry because he looked suspiciously pale in skin tone, had a more European sounding last name, and it was convenient to the narrative for him to be portrayed that way.

Its arbitrary, and actually has little to do with skin color. I'm more brown than most of the Mexicans I know at the moment (I brown up quite a bit from the little bit of time I get in the sun), yet I'm a "white guy." Just a tall, dark, and apparently my wife thinks "handsome" white dude with brownish skin.
