That's a great point, it would make the hull weaker, especially at those depths. So if the report I posted is true, I wonder what happened to the carrier sub? Thanks so much for the information. Gives me a lot to think about.

If they were in territorial waters they probably wouldn't use a carrier sub. They'd probably only use it for specific missions that would go long distances, when they'd need more supplies.

So with that in mind they were probably not in Alaska waters. Although another site I read said that this occurred yesterday. Still I don't think that it could get back to port that fast from Alaska waters.

Surely an approval order to attack the US vessel would come from the commander in chief in this case Putin? Then a retaliatory strike back would be approved by Trump.

Also, some of these sketchy reports are saying The Russian sub escorting the nuclear submarine responded with a Balkan 2000 torpedo. As far as I'm aware there is no such torpedo called a Balkan 2000.

And “scuttle” is a term referring to the self-sinking of a vessel, not being hit or sunk by another vessel.

Not reading all the post on this topic. Could the Russian sub fire actually be a nuclear melt down? If so it is now polluting which ever ocean it was in?

According to some of the reports it was back in port sometime late yesterday. It was back in port before it was announced this morning for sure. So it most likely wasn't in Alaskan waters.

What's really interesting is that according to Russian sources 7 senior rank captains were on board.

No. There's no sign of increased radiation detected by any of the stations monitoring the area.

The Balkan 2000 claim appears to have come from Debka. They're about as reliable a source as Veteran's Today or Hal Turner or Sorcha Faal.

Yes I agree that is most interesting. Having that many senior officers on the same vessel is odd. Some kind of training mission perhaps.

Is it that the fire on the sub sank it so Russia has one or five or whatever nuclear warheads under water retrievable by whoever gets there first and that's a big deal?

just read on DebKA that an American sub was torpedoed and sunk with marines aboard.

but AP is only discussing a Russian research sub caught fire and 14 Russians died.

weird this is all just under Pence being called away, though.

could the russian sub been looking for that missing hypersonic missile the russians tested that sank some where near the russian usa like ocean border? i think near the bering sea?

www.cnbc.com... the nuclear powered one

A nuclear-powered Russian missile remains lost at sea after a failed test late last year, and Moscow is preparing to try to recover it, according to people with direct knowledge of a U.S. intelligence report. Crews will attempt to recover a missile that was test launched in November and landed in the Barents Sea, which is located north of Norway and Russia. The operation will include three vessels, one of which is equipped to handle radioactive material from the weapon’s nuclear core. There is no timeline for the mission, according to the people with knowledge of the report. The U.S. intelligence report did not mention any potential health or environmental risks posed by possible damage to the missile’s nuclear reactor.
could they have tried to recover it and that possibly lead to the fire?

Debka is about as trustworthy as a group of politicians, meaning not at all.

Take all of this with a grain of salt. For all we know Pence got sick and had to return. It's not WW3, aliens or a presidential reptilian clone. It's just another day in government.

Debkafiles is an Israeli military intelligence website based in Jerusalem. To claim that they are not trustworthy is quite a claim. Why would they lie?

This is what they are reporting.

First reports reaching DEBKAfile’s military sources say that a US submarine intercepted a Russian nuclear sub in American waters opposite Alaska. The Russian sub escorting the nuclear submarine responded with a Balkan 2000 torpedo and scuttled the US vessel. Urgent consultations in both the White House and the Kremlin were taking place on Tuesday night. US Vice President Mike Pence called off an appearance in New Hampshire after being recalled to Washington for a conference called by President Donald Trump without explanation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin cancelled an engagement and headed for the Kremlin to confer with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and military chiefs, after learning that 14 submariners died in a fire that broke out on a nuclear-powered “experimental submarine in Russian waters.” This account carried in Russian media varies in most respects from the first reports reaching this site and may refer to a separate incident. They report between 14 and 17 members of an AS-12 nuclear powered submarine died of poisonous fumes caused by a fire aboard the vessel. The submarine was described as experimental and unarmed but often used in spy missions. It is unclear how many of the 25 crew survived. Local media suggest four or five are receiving treatment in Severomorsk’s military hospital for poisoning and concussion injuries. Another news account said the majority of the officers died in or on their way to hospital. These reports do not cite the cause of the fire.

No, they really aren't. They've been known to push utter crap before. Feel free to post any information on the "Balkan 2000 torpedo" they claimed was used. I'll wait while you go find the information on it. Debka is the Israeli version of Veteran's Today.

And just to be clear, the Balkan 2000 doesn't exist. The naming of it doesn't fit Russian naming for their torpedoes, and there's zero information beyond the BS article.
