End of an era at Renton

On Thursday, June 27th, a 737-800 for BOC Aviation Group, and leased to Skymark Airlines in Japan departed Seattle. The aircraft was a the last of the 737NG line, ending 22 years of production that saw 7,089 aircraft ordered. The 737-800 accounted for over 5,000 of those and is the most widely used commercial aircraft ever produced.

It also ends an 18 year contract with BOC that saw 209 aircraft delivered. Of those 161 were 737-800s.

I hadn't actually realized 73NG production was ending this quick. I had thought there was a changeover that went through till next year or so. I'm also a little surprised to hear that the 738 is the most widely built single commercial aircraft type. I would have thought the classic 320 beat it.

It's close between the two. There are 4,729 A320s, including backlog. The -800 stands at 4,991, another 157 for the -800A, and if you throw in the -800BBJ there's another 23.
