Galaxy Going To Explode (moved from ATSNN)

62 million light years away the hubble took pic's of a small galaxy named NGC 1427A is moving towards a group of other galaxy's which will tear it apart.



hopfully this kind of this wont happen to the milky way galaxy and also hopfully the hubble will get some more big news like this before they crash it

not at all. figure that radiation ( light ) was emitted roughly 3 million years after the dinosaurs went extinct.

The funny thing is that this all happened billions of years ago. Talk about old news

A couple things...

There's a small galaxy, about the size of the Magellenic clouds on the other side of the galaxy (look through Saggitarius to the very far side, which isn't actually possible, but just so you know where it is), that's colliing with our Milky Way as we speak.

Also, the Andromeda Galaxy will collide with us in a few dozen billion years or so.

Sorry to disappoint, but think of it this way. The gravitational interactions create MASSIVE amounts of star formation. Also, the galaxies arn't so much destroyed, as they change shape. Another thing is that the chances of two stars colliding within the merging galaxies it relatively zero.

Well when andromeda does hit the milky way we won't even know b/c our precious hubble cannot forsee past the speed of light. Anything that we see happening is billions of years old, mostly.

when i first read the title i thought it was our galaxy that was going to explode, gladly, this is not the case (i hope)

What does it matter if it does explode? The religious will goto heaven or whatever they believe in, for the nonreligious life will just end and this will all take place in a split second. Not to mention it won't happen anytime soon. So who really cares?

Uhh... no.

If it is true that hubble, nor anything else that I know of, can not foresee past the speed of light, we would know anyway, because as the Andromeda galaxy comes closer, its light takes less time to reach us, and we will know 'in time' when it gets here...

What we see is not mostly billions of years old. It just depends on how far it is. We see the sun with 8 minutes of delay, Alpha centauri with about 4 years, and the Andromeda galaxy about 2 millions of years. Not billions.
