Husband is having to go through the passport shenanigans right now. Thought he had everything and then discovered he needs the original birth certificate which adds extra headaches since he was adopted and the records on that are sealed.

We call them enhanced licenses in Detroit combo. Used instead of passports for freq. visits across the Canadian boarder to casinos etc.

Speeds things up crossing. Wife has one.

Eeks...guess my wife will have to get a job, at least for awhile, so she can continue driving and traveling. I guess I could hire her as a 1099 employee, I need an assistant, might as well keep it in the family lol.

Seriously though, I hope they have do-able requirements for everyone. I had to waste the better part of two days off work just to be able to get her regular license updated (address change.)

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we're doing these REAL IDs, but I can see it turning into a cluster fek. I HIGHLY recommend getting yours (that's yours as in all US citizens) sooner, rather than when the big rush happens.

Here you need insurance to register your car with the DMV but if you do not have insurance you can pay $500.00 to register a vehicle without insurance.
You do not need to own a car to have a drivers license so I do not see how you need car insurance to get one.

Wont a utility bill suffice to show proof of residency?

Correct.

Also just a heads up silly, we have to get new drivers licenses before Oct 2020 if we want to get through TSA.

Virginia has one of the most secure ID's, but we have to get one with the little start in the top right that says they are "real ID".

It's only 10 dollars, but you have to go to the DMV and go through the process with identification all over again

Most (all?) states no longer accept original birth certificates. You now have to get a certified copy. My DMV (WI) would not accept my original.

My state keeps changing when they will begin the Real ID process. It was supposed to begin in January (when I had to renew my license anyway) and they weren't ready so they moved it to March- but that didn't pan out either. Now they are saying September. I'm starting to think these fools aren't ever going to get their act together!

If they ever do finally roll it out the requirements in my state are SS Card, Birth Certificate, Current Lease and/or utility bills etc. times 3, and (for mainly women) certified copies of all marriage licenses/ divorce decrees (supposedly to account for any and every name change). It's funny but I've had FBI background checks that didn't require half as much documentation- just my ID and finger prints!

Maybe the real plan with this is to keep poor people from being able to move around freely and easily.

They also run you through a national data base going back to the dawn of time . I've not got a real ID yet but they did this when I last renewed my drivers license, and some kind of ticket came up from 1989 in another state they would not give me my new license until I contacted and got Colorado to release it I'm in California.

I got mine back in FEB.
Here are the requirements in Pennsylvania.

Proof of identity:
Original or certified copy of a birth certificate filed with the state office of vital records with a raised/embossed seal — issued by an authorized government agency
or
valid, unexpired U.S. Passport or passport card.

Proof of Social Security number: Social Security card.

Two proofs of current, physical PA address (if applicable):
Examples include current:
unexpired PA license or ID,
PA vehicle registration,
auto insurance card,
utility bill with the same name and address.

Proof of all legal name changes:
Certified marriage certificate,
or court order,
or divorce decree issued by your county’s family court.

One thing to note the name on your Drivers license must be changed to match your full name on your Birth Certificate/ Passport. No Initials
example: if name on Birth Certificate is Robert Samual Jones, then your Drivers License was Bob Jones it will be changed to Robert Samual Jones.

Like I noted, Idaho will still sell common driver's licenses, without the star. We have two 1099's for paying income tax on our 401k's. The auto insurance card, plus your Idaho driver's license, help's to show current Idaho residence. My insurance cards are only good for six months, and momma hadn't put the July to Jan. card into our Explorer, so that became part of the scavenger hunt. Did I mention, they demanded two photo I.D.'s *(current ones). So, no expired Passports or driver's licenses.
Something I didn't get into, was if Idaho will sell a Real I.D. 'Identification card', as well. If you get pinched and they pull your State Driver's license, it does help to have the secondary State issued photo I.D.

Dont be surprised if soon you will have to come up with a verified approved witnessed DNA sample, a verified and approved witnessed retina scan, a verified and witnessed face scan, a verified witnessed physiological report, verified and witnessed seaman sample if male, a verified original copy of a character reference, just to get a drivers license.

Why might they do require this? because if its technological possible then it will be required and you will also have to pay for all those costs associated with it including payment of the witnesses.

if it can be technologically be done then it will be added to the requirements list.

By the way, bear in mind that when you register something or get a license for something you accept slave status and their jurisdiction over you. Why is this ?? Well; slaves do as they are told don't they? Slaves obey.

I suspect the plan is to limit and monitor everyone's movements. 9/11 was a major step in this direction. I seem to remember needing no ID to board a plane, train or bus: just a ticket!

I was corrected in my 1099 claim, by my wife. We both have them to submit and document our S.S. payments. We don't pay these taxes, at the end of the year, but we have to account for the payouts. We have our taxes withheld from our SS payments, month by month. So the wife collected both of these 1099's from 2018, and we used them to help establish our Idaho residency, in our Star Driving licenses.

FWIW. We just got back from a week in Western Canada. At the Cannuck border crossing we were told Star I.D. isn't up there yet. Not really needed to get into Cannuck land but passports needed to get back into Idaho. Idaho fiddled and faddled as usual, so Eastern U.S.A. may be way a head of us Rednecks.
BTW. the Mountie at the gate asked me about three or four times if I had any Pistols with me. I had to bite my lip to not reply that with my wrist watch on my right wrist, that I'm a Revolver Man.
He also asked "when did you transport firearms in this vehicle last?? I remarked to my wife that I used our old Sable to take my more valuable six shooters and Safari Rifles up to my daughter in law's father's gun safe room, before we left for Europe in May. So the Mounty let us in with no more accusations.
