While I don’t agree with drag queens reading to impressionable children, who am I to say they can’t?

I just wouldn’t bring my kid to any such thing. Seems like common sense to me.

How stupid. Free people wanting to do what free people do....and bigots show up to protest it.

You don't have to like what others do. I, personally, can't stand 90% of pop culture. I'd like to slap those huge furry eyebrows off peoples heads.

But let free people do what they want.

Free speech huh?

How about we have Junkie Story Time then?
They can use magic markers to draw tracks and bruises on their arms.
All in the spirit of Free Speech.
Of course, this should be taught to 3rd graders.
In the spirit of Free Speech.

Every liberal in the city was either inside brainwashing their kids, or outside screaming at everyone who is against brainwashing kids. Wasn't a packed house to say the least.

If someone thinks they are "woke" and want their kids there, its not my place to tell them "no".

Freedom is not freedom from thinks you disapprove of.

Just wondering, in this age of gender equality, shouldn't there also be a drag king story hour?
I'm not sure of exactly what transpires at all these venues in the US, but so far I've only heard about drag queens!

I think there certainly are drag kings (women cross-dressing as men) performing in colleges (posted many of them in my drag show thread on ATS), and I think a lot of guys would feel less queasy if they saw masculinity was also affirmed as empowering (some kids will swing that way too), even if the performer is actually female.

Let's affirm both masculinity and femininity as gorgeous and interesting.

And what amazing historical stories drag kings could tell, for while male-to-female drag was mainly for the theater, the courts and adult entertainment (very rarely was the charade concealed), historically female-to-male drag was actually used by some women to enter real male professions in the military and the sciences (the truth sometimes only discovered after their deaths).
A famous example being James Barry, and just heard the French "savants" sent to study and rule Egypt just before the Napoleonic Wars also included quite a few women pretending to be men. en.wikipedia.org...(surgeon)

And then one also has "faux drag queens" - actual women who parody an exaggerated version of femininity and appear as male drag queens.
medium.com...
However I'm specifically referring here to female-to-male drag storytellers as "drag kings".

I don’t have any problem with what they’re doing if it’s in a privately owned setting, I just don’t agree with it being done at a publicly funded library. If people are paying taxes to fund a library, they should also have a say in the material and subject matter their children are subjected to. I think it’s fairly obvious that the majority of people feel this way. It’s for certain a gray area none the less.

Since drag is generally adult entertainment, I think they need to host burlequse story hour and porn star story hour.

You would think in this day and age, folks would be happy kids are getting to the library.

OK, if Drag Queens reading stories is not your thing, don't sit down and listen. I'm sure there are other quiet spots in the library. Or just go on a different day if it bothers you.

The Drag Queen has a right to be in a "public" library. Kudos for reading to the kids. Now if the DQ is reading content not appropriate for little kids, that's a different story.
