What about African-Americans who have ancestors going back to the countries in Africa that SOLD slaves?
Will they need to pay...as well as recieve?

This is fun.
The Supreme Court should be tied up for decades.

What about people who "Self-Identify"
as a slave? Do they get anything, and if not can they protest?

Survivors of Self-Identifying Slaves would be court certified by old family books and slave owner business records.

The State Department will form new branches and sub-departments and provide special offices in U.S. Embassies in the affected Nations 😎

Determinations and exemptions will be reviewed and certified by the Secretary of State exclusively and delivered to the Secretary of the DOR 😀

Enforcement of collections will migrate automatically to the Dept of Defence.

All slaves and slave owners/traders will be retroactively treated equally per the 14th Amendment.

No exceptions unless extenuating circumstances can be shown "for cause" in Court.

You guys don't like when black people blame the Republican party for slavery, why is it ok to blame Democrats? Double standards?

Maybe because it was the democrat party that split off and created the confederacy, or the fact that open borders and sanctuary cities allow slavery survive today in the US at record levels. 2001-2009.state.gov...

An obvious predicament is determining whether or not an African Nation in question existed at the time, or if the borders changed possibly due to corruption and/or war border redraws from Imperial Conquests especially from England or France.

One thing that must be considered is the fact that Abraham Lincoln was a Republican and VP Andrew Johnson was a Democrat (a clear example of "pre 14th Amendment" political correctness).

Lincoln instituted the "40 Arces and a Mule" program.

When Lincoln died suddenly, Johnson became President and revoked the program.

Hmmmm.

So your saying a democrat took away their ability to become self-sufficient using the skills they had acquired. Since they could do the actual work, the plantation owners were likely terrified of the competition.

Looks like something happened....yup

Forty acres and a mule

Forty acres and a mule is part of Special Field Orders No. 15, a promise made by the United States government for agrarian reform to aid formerly enslaved black farmers. Approved by President Abraham Lincoln, the field orders were written by Union General William Tecumseh Sherman on January 16, 1865, and specifically allotted each family a plot of land no larger than 40 acres (16 ha). Sherman later ordered the army to lend mules for the agrarian reform effort. The field orders followed a series of conversations between Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton and Radical Republican abolitionists Charles Sumner and Thaddeus Stevens[1] following disruptions to the institution of slavery provoked by the American Civil War. Many freed people believed and were told by various political figures that they had a right to own the land they had long worked as slaves, and were eager to control their own property. Freed people widely expected to legally claim 40 acres of land (a quarter-quarter section) and a mule after the end of the war, long after proclamations such as Special Field Orders No. 15 and the Freedmen's Bureau Act were explicitly reversed by Lincoln's successor, Andrew Johnson.

I think this is indicative of the current state of the Democrat party, which is bad. #walkaway is real. This is a panic move to try to hold on to black voters. If they don't keep them voting Dem around 85-90% or more, they're in serious trouble. They must have some internal data that shows they're in worse trouble than they thought, so they rolled out the reparations nonsense to try to buy votes.

The problem with the idea of reparations aside from the usual counter arguments is that you cannot hand anyone who makes consistently poor money management decisions a one-time wad of cash and expect it to fix anything about their lives expect for on an extremely temporary basis. I have relatives who are proof of that.

The only way such a hair-brained scheme would work is if this were an ongoing entitlement payout, and in order to erase the wealth gap, it would have to be substantial.

Chapelle show did a hilarious skit about this. They would spend that money back into white people's hands so fast your head would spin.

No. Just no. More black men in jail than college, is a damn lie. But then again, since we're cherry picking, his family history is an exception, not the rule nor is it typical. Plenty of slaves escaped only to end up back in captivity.

You got the Pro and you get the Con. It's a hearing and you've got to have someone speak on both sides.

Stay the same ATS, stay the same.

Progressive Democrat President Woodrow Wilson:

“The white men of the South were aroused by the mere instinct of self-preservation to rid themselves, by fair means or foul, of the intolerable burden of governments sustained by the votes of ignorant negroes and conducted in the interest of adventurers.” --Woodrow Wilson

The Ku Klux Klan persecuted black Americans and their white Republican advocates, along with Catholics and Jewish people. The Ku Klux Klan enjoyed a “resurgence” in 1915, thanks mainly to the film, “The Birth of a Nation,” which was based on Thomas Dixon’s “The Clansman.” Thomas Dixon was a “longtime political supporter, friend and former classmate of [Woodrow] Wilson’s at Johns Hopkins University.”

Keep defending racism. Have fun with that.

I'm a Cherokee/Irish woman.

My Irish ancestry is from South Carolina where we were indentured servants.

And you think I am defending racism.

What I am actually doing is defending the right that Americans have to speak freely.

Take your race card and shove it up your ass where it belongs.
