USA Article

The killer was carbon monoxide poisoning from the SUV that Fish accidentally left running in his garage for nearly 10 hours

Technology and the ageing population. Plus, top it off with the NO rules NO patience for the ME and MY Millennial generation with soon to arrive self driving vehicles and I will think that technology will have met its critical mass. Technology is at its point that it is becoming a danger to all of us. That's Joe, Jesus, DeShawn, Aaliyah, Muhammad and the rest of us humans. Sure the guy forgot to turn off the car so blame him. Humans are human. As we age we make mistakes and if we are on one side of the Bell curve we make them sooner rather than later in life. So self driving vehicles must be programmed to meet the speed limit. So good luck with that one. Plus hear all those guys banging on AI and robots as a danger to humanity. I even think that Dr. Hawking said something on it. Oh, I forgot but think about hackers, spyware, virus, ransonware and the rest of the junk. This entire thing is going to come to a halt so save your stick matches, firewood, toilet paper, boos, seeds and please learn how to cook again.

You can read about it here:

Dr. Steven Hawking

Hell, at this point in life you can go out and mate with an AI robotic mate.Well they always said that the porn industry drives technology.

Porn Industry

However, humans have emotions and we get sick and have our funk times. I think because of all of those Energy drinks we wont be able to handle it and were done.

Well if you leave your car running in an enclosed space, what do you expect is going to happen?

Technology at Critical Mass?

Hardly, people have been killing themselves this way for many years now

What does this have to do with technology? The car did not turn on by itself and kill him. He screwed up. The failure was at the human level. Darwin Award for him.

My son's favorite refrain: Old people and technology ...

And I am the one with the IT degree.

as we are discussing a series of fatal incidents - i shall attempt to be polite

but WTF

while i has only ever been a passenger in UK spec keyless vehicle

i find it hard to grasp how a person capable of exiting and abandoning a keyless vehicle in the confines of a grage - would actually remember to work an ignition key - and remove it

i am old enough to have experience of owning mercedes benz " pull start " deisel engine vehicles - and they had seperate key for the electronic functions and steer lock - and a cable control to the fuel pump for run // stop - that also had an 2 electronic switches for " pre heat " and starter motor

it was quite simple - insert ignition key - turn on electrics - pull the start button out to the pre heat position - and wait 5 sec - then pull to engage starter motor - you then pushed it back to run position - and when stopped rammed it flush to the dash for engine kill

the electronics // ignition switch - was wholey sepate - and it was possible on many vehicles to turn off the electronics - while the engine was running [ this could damage some alternators ]

but - everyone that had them - seemed to get the hang of it - and there was no spate of deaths

so - my sympathy is muted

If part of your procedure for parking your car is not turning it off then you probably should not be operating the vehicle.

I do keep forgetting that mistakes are most often the fault of others, not the person doing it. I am to take it that many people do not know to turn of the vehicle.

While I agree with the overall message of the OP, the specific scenario for me is no different than a caveman falling asleep next to an open fire that gets out of control.

Yes, we humans are clumsy and it can lead to our death and I do think technology is something we are going to need to be increasingly cautious of, but that has always been the case.

Not so much technology but more of ineptitude on the part of the deceased.

It's not difficult to turn off one's car, even a keyless one.

Nor is it difficult to own and use a carbon monoxide detector.

Dumbass leaving his car running in a garage has diddly s# to do with tech and EVERYTHING to do with Darwinism. He won the award fair & square here.

We have a keyless car, and like one WITH a key, it's awful damn hard to forget it's running. Stupid is as stupid does, and the guy in the article was just plain lacking in enough common sense -- don't exit a vehicle without ensuring it's off. If you can't have enough brain cells collide to do this as an ingrained step in ceasing operation of a vehicle, you have no business near a vehicle, let alone owning one.

But yes, let's spin this into being technology's fault and not a moron's. Because that makes more sense than the obvious.

Some one needs to ask Accidentally Occasional Cortex, what the difference between a concentration camp and detainment center is.

Because obuma fully utilized them and it is Dems under his administration that created this current issue and or problem.

Why didn't any of these summer time political wannabees say anything about it under his admin?

Where's the outrageous concern for the children under obumas separated families, by Dem mandated policy?

Hypocritical asinine bs again, more idiotic ignorance from the left... typical actually.

Well, at this point in the human race it is my belief that the world has more morons living on it than at any time before in history, whats new is technological advancement which makes daily living tougher and not easier. So is this a means as to gently cultivate those from society deemed unworthy? I mean I didn't write the article. USA Today did and who does ET prefer to deal with?

I think it is reversed.

Without the level of tech in use many people would not survive.

in all seriousness

while watching your grandmothers car pull up outside your house - and having to go outside to find her dead = grim

how would you feel having a senior police officer knocking at your door to inform you that your grandmother died an your earlier - doing 60mph down the mothorway and her out of control car caused a 14 vehicle pile up with 5 additional deaths

your grand mother was going to di anyway
