The ultimate troll would be for Trump to release his taxes and then wait for Omar to do the same. Trump has nothing to hide, right?

I have nothing to hide, you think I am going to allow the government to snoop through my personal data without a warrant?

Are you running for public office? If not, you haves no need to show your tax returns to anyone.

I say that transparency is a good thing when it comes to elected officials. If they are there to represent us on a public stage then they have already made their lives public and should be required to provide their tax returns to see if their mind is where their mouth is. Make it so we know EXACTLY where their loyalty lies and to do that you usually follow the money.

But I know there are some who only want transparency if it means the other side. Didn't Trump say his administration would be the most transparent ever? Why not make his financials transparent so that we know he isn't in the back pockets of his former business associates? Him giving them that trillion dollar tax break seems a little suspicious to me, it will also effect his own taxes in the future. Sounds like a conflict of interest if you ask me.

Not only would it (releasing his tax returns) prove all of Trump's haters wrong but Trump will be 100% vindicated of any shady backroom deals. He has nothing to hide, right? Why not set the precedent for crooked politicians like Omar?

Trump has not demanded anyone show their tax returns. That doesn't sound like "only wanting transparency if it means the other side." Ilhan Omar has demanded that Trump release his tax returns while under no suspicion then refused to release hers when an error is found. That is precisely "only wanting transparency if it means the other side."

Plus, I wish people would keep up. You're the second person in this thread who needed reminding that Trump's tax returns were already released to Congress by court order! Now, can we have the same from those who demanded his returns be released?

the clock is ticking on her resignation

I wonder if she will still want Trump to show his tax returns? lol

Omar will respond to AP request for tax returns when President Trump responds to the same request. I bet you anything. lol.

Yeah, but Trump has never demanded any one else's tax returns, so that would be useless. She would have to put her money where her mouth is, almost in a literal sense, only then could it be seen that she actually believes in that procedure.

lol, I guess you missed that a court had ordered the IRS to turn over Trump's tax returns.

Her turn.

Never missed it, badly worded sarchasm since its the dems default excuse to everything. "What about Trump?"

Even with that logic, she is still a hypocrite. She is demanding Trumps tax returns. Trump hasn't (yet at least) demanded that her's be released. If the AP asked for both and she was silent as to Trump's tax returns, then she might have had some ground to stand on.

She has learnt from the “cheater-in-chief” in the White House, if anyone wonders!

When did Trump marry his Sister? I must have missed that.

Exactly.

Also, showing one's tax returns as a response to a series of itemised potential breaches is vastly different to showing one's tax returns because the opposing party want to dig through it in the hope of finding a breach.

I say make all of them show their tax returns. If they want to be a public representative then they should be required to publicly make their financials visible. We all know money in politics is a huge problem so why not make their true loyalty clear?

Omar SHOULD be required to provide her tax returns so that anything out of the ordinary can be seen. Same goes for every other politician as well. It should be a requirement.

And you mean the taxes from the early 90's? That was nearly 30 years ago. Why would I care about those when I'm talking about current tax returns? He's president now, not 30 years ago.

Anything out of the ordinary should be seen by the IRS. The problem with making these things public in today's world is how it will be politically weaponized without there being anything wrong even.

No issue with that. But to do that, we need a law stating it (perhaps a Constitutional Amendment, but hopefully not), and right now the House doesn't seem to be able to pass anything that will meet Senate muster. They seem obsessed with passing bills that cannot become law, like they're actually accomplishing anything, and asking for a pay raise while doing nothing.

This is pretty much what I warned about in 2018 when it became apparent the Democrats had a good shot at taking the House: absolute and total gridlock. There's no way to get anything done. We could be invaded tomorrow by North Korea, and the Democrats in Congress would do everything they could to support Kim Jong Un just because Trump would be in charge of the military. Heck, they would probably file lawsuits on behalf of the North Korean military to prevent our military from using real bullets.

So, here we are, stuck in the middle, with no laws able to be passed regardless of how badly they are needed, and Trump still hounded at every turn because he had the audacity to win a free and fair election. Nothing much we can do for more than another year except gripe at the idiocy we keep seeing and praying for an end to the gridlock. That end could actually be worse than the gridlock should the Democrats take the Senate and keep the House in 2020, and if they took the Presidency... well, the country is done at that point. It's a downhill spiral and the only way out will be to have enough cash to leave the country before the riots and looting begin. And people wonder why we're a laughing stock internationally...

We desperately need anti-corruption legislation, immigration reform, education reform, health care reform, infrastructure repair, and further tax reform. What we got is a bunch of unwarranted, redundant investigations. If things go wrong in 2020, we'll also have cow fart reform, a failing economy, and uncontrolled socialism to make those issues worse.

Venezuela: "This is how you destroy a country!"
USA: "Hold my beer."

Precious few people even file their own taxes anyway... most couldn't read a 1040EZ, much less a complex 1040 like Trump has to file. The hope is that if the returns are released, someone with a degree and a fancy title can 'analyze' them and start a bunch of rumors that will turn the public against Trump.

I really don't have an issue with Omar refusing to release her tax returns outside of the blatant hypocrisy. The public can't do anything about tax violations anyway; that's the IRS' job. The most the public can do is vote her out of office next year, and if there's not already enough problems for that to happen... well, I don't know what to say at that point. Bless Minnesota's poor little hearts?
