In my area, sagging pants and/or a long white t-shirt is code amongst the criminals that they are selling illegal drugs of the powdery white persuasion.

The police are not idiots. They know this and much more. They are trained to spot criminal activity, and if they suspect you of such, they are legally allowed to confront you or detain you. The fact that so many people run from these types of stops is evidence that they know what they are doing.

The fact that so many criminals don’t understand this and still present themselves as caricatures of gangsters, is a blessing. If this guy was wearing a nice suit, he could have evaded detection all together. He might have even gotten a job and could have stopped being a gangster all together, but people want to look like gangster. Let em. Makes the police’s job easier.

If anyone is afraid that their friends or their kids will be mistaken for a gangster, tell them to take the great big neon sign off and dress like they are not a gangster .

That is what smart criminals would do.

What about it? If your feet stink then don't wear flip flops or you might end up standing around by yourself. Just be sure you don't wear your pants around the bottom of your butt.

I think the "style" of sagging pants is impractical and silly. But that doesn't make it something for the law to get involved with so long as your skin is covered. It's still fabric covering you.

I hope the cops are ticketing every woman walking around in a bikini down there, because they're essentially wearing underwear.

The hoops that state has to construct to justify their wack ass rules.

I've seen flies follow them dudes, instead of annoying me. The low pants fulfill the same function as the sticky thing that used to be hung from ceilings when I was a kid.

You're still going off topic. This isn't about restricting the clothes you wear. It's about how you wear your clothes. You still have to wear a shirt and shoes in stores around here. Is decency too much to ask for or something? Youtube and Twitter already restrict viewpoints when they don't agree with them, so that's a moot point anyways.

What if you wear boxers over your pants?

The shirt and shoe policy is set by the store. It's not a government mandate.

And it came to pass that

Some are willing to give up certain freedoms to protect their eyes from underwear.

It gives officers a reason to approach people with sagging pants, give a ticket, and find probable cause to search (which isn't hard).

If people want their rights, they better start defending those for others, even if they do seem silly or pointless. You'll never catch me walking around with sagging pants, but if some one does it, it has no effect on me.

I hear ya. Criminals are often pretty stupid when it comes to things such as this.

Much like people who drive around with lots of drugs in a car with violations such as burnt out lights or no valid registration.

I don't think this is really about being prude as much as giving officers easier means to apprehend suspects that "fit the bill".

This has nothing to do with exposing underwear, as I can assure you in the same communities a woman could leave a pool or the beach, put on a see thru slip, and go into most establishments or walk the street without fear of harassment from the police. This is targeting young men who fit the "gangsta" look. And while I agree with road gravel above me, that these young men are being foolish for not catching on to that... it doesn't make it right.

Its a violation of our basic rights. And it has every appearance of being racist. Even beyond that, it IS racist due to the "adverse impact" rule.

Long story short: dump the law.

I, a middle aged white professional, wear baggy pants due to a medical condition.

I can`t sunbathe nude in my own back yard, and that`s not exactly in public

As long as there are rules/laws on acceptable dress ( or lack thereof) I see no problem with the sagging pants laws.
But, if one law governing what "clothing or not" is done away with they all should go.

On the other hand, just because one of your rights is violated (sunbathing nude) doesn't mean you get to, in turn vote or wish ill on another and violate their rights as well. Stand up for all rights or none.

Why do you think this law should exist in the first place? What gives any government the right to dictate what their citizens wear?

Because it's indecent. Why do you think people should be able to wear their pants so low that their underwear can be seen?

Madonna proved long ago that showing your underwear in public was/is perfectly acceptable these days.

If showing your ass in public were illegal, do you think there would be ANYONE in Washington D.C.?

Heck even the Colorectal Cancer folks are calling their efforts the MOON SHOT TEAM.

(okay this law is "ass"-i-nine)
